I wonder about people sometimes. Iberian Lynx eat mainly rabbits yet Spanish farmers and hunters have a found a way to block a proposal to introduce Lynx to Catalonia where rabbits are abundant opting to poison them instead. It makes me want to scream. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

Lovely pristine fungi. Velvet shanks I think.... #fungifriends

A gentle stroll through Cannon Hill Park today was very pleasant. The Bar-headed Goose was there surveying its domain. Other than that, just a Little Egret, some Stock Dove and Nuthatch action, and a couple of very obliging Goldcrest showing down to mere centimeters.

Edgbaston res. 7.45-9 Juv GBBG. Presumably the same bird from a few days back. Little Grebe 5 GCG 2 Chiffchaff Treecreeper Redwing 3 #ukbirding

As some may have noticed I'm trying to learn more about young Gull id. This was at Edgbaston res at midday, and I felt it had GBBG vibes. Heavy bill, nicely patterned/almost barred mantle. Pale wing tips. Sorry for the usual grainy pics. Any thoughts appreciated. #ukbirding

I think Edgbaston reservoir's year list is done. It's a hard place to get anything, so we've done OK by our standards. 92 species across the year. Highlights: Red-throated Diver Osprey Ring Ouzel Black-necked Grebe Red Kite Common Scoter Brambling Kittiwake Happy New Year everyone! #ukbirding

Great to catch up with @thehairycrisp.bsky.social at Edgbaston res this morning. Couldn't see the Gull I thought might be baltic from yesterday. Looking at other ones today & saw this one. I presume a 2nd or 3rd winter Herring, but made us curious.. Any thoughts appreciated @saloplarus.bsky.social

Edgbaston res- 7.45-9 Possible Baltic Gull. Long & slim in body & wing. Very dark mantle, with dark primaries showing no discernable windows. No image I'm afraid. I just felt it worth a mention. I'll try to look for it again Peregrine, plus a couple of chiffchaff the best of the rest #ukbirding

An afternoon up the A38 - Slavonian Grebe showed well at Whitemoor Haye from quarry entrance with 2 juv Whooper Swans with Mutes at Sittles Farm, followed by a smart + showy drake Red-breasted Merganser at Tucklesholme. Finished with a dispiriting visit to a restored Branston GP with 3 Egyptian Gs 😕

Mistletoe used to be relatively rare in Birmingham and the Black Country, but there has been a big increase in recent years - possibly due to climate change or an increase in Blackcaps spreading mistletoe seeds. More info here: mistletoe.org.uk/infosheets/M...

Windy days like this, when the noise coming from the little gaps in your windows sound like King Penguins are gathering ......or is it just me 🤔
