True story this. Went to the funeral yesterday for a guy who played the dame every year in the local panto. The vicar stood in front of the coffin and asked where he was and we all shouted 'he's behind you.' A lovely moment.

Every day the UK fails to establish better trading and cultural links with the EU is a day wasted. Labour needs to wake up.

BOOM!💥 The number of @bsky.app users just hit 35 MILLION!!! 👏 LETS KEEP GOING, LETS MAKE BLUESKY THE BIGGEST SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM ON THE PLANET AND SEND MUSK, ZUCK & TRUMP PACKING! LETS DO THIS!

The premise on which Nigel Farage bases his argument for leaving the ECHR wholly fails under scrutiny

NEW How the United States constitutional crisis is intensifying And what the US government should realise about a cavalier approach to obligations By me Substack emptycity.substack.com/p/how-the-un... Personal blog davidallengreen.com/2025/04/how-...

Bannon the latest in the “Britain doesn’t manufacture anything” brigade. It’s a lazy trope you hear repeated in the media a lot. In fact the UK remains the 8th or 9th biggest manufacturer in the world. 10% of our GDP with some of the most advanced manufacturing anywhere.

An extraordinary statement, which effectively says that the authors of the fifth and fourteenth amendments to the US constitution aided and abetted terrorists.

Brexit ‘Economic detachment from Europe was premised on a model of the UK as a lone sovereign agent in an open, free-trading globalised world. That was an outdated concept at the time. It has aged very poorly.’ The US has destroyed Brexit assumptions. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The US is going to become one of those places where when you hear someone travelling there for a hiking holiday was kidnapped you think “Well what the fuck were you doing going *there* on a bloody hiking holiday for you idiot.”

He’s threatening media companies who are critical of him. He’s talking about sending Americans to foreign prisons. He’s signing executive orders to investigate former staff members who spoke out against him. He’s defying the Supreme Court. Don’t you see what’s happening here?

RIP Jean Marsh She co-created, along with friend Eileen Atkins, Upstairs, Downstairs as she wanted the lives of working class characters who served the upper class to be dramatised & empathised with. I instinctively appreciated seeing this as a child with working class parents. She was a class act.

Spot on 👍 from Matthew Parris, I totally agree. Starmer should be kicking ass, not kissing it Failing to side with allies and threaten retaliation for the imposition of tariffs will only encourage a bullying president!

Incoherent imbecile Trump has blamed Putin, Biden and Zelenskyy for the war in Ukraine. The war that Russia has been waging for 3 years. Biden? Supplied arms & support. Zelenskyy? The leader of the country being attacked Putin? The War Criminal & pal of Trump. news.sky.com/story/ukrain...

As I watch Starmer tear up Labour's prospects by attacking people in poverty, abusing those who care about the living world and appeasing the ultra-rich, I feel the same sense of dislocation as I did before the Iraq War. Anyone can see the disaster coming, except, apparently, the government.

By embracing austerity Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves are busily handing their core constituencies to Nigel Farage. Austerity increases support for the right. Rightwing populists will keep winning until we grasp this truth about human nature | George Monbiot www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Punching down on disabled people, it’s not what many of us vote Labour for and they will have to be careful or lose the next general election potentially over this. ‘Electoral wake-up call’: dozens of Labour MPs risk losing majorities over welfare cuts www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Voters want Keir Starmer to focus on rebuilding trade ties with EU, poll reveals

"The prime minister’s reluctance to ever challenge the fallacious premises of Brexit raises doubts about the true scale of his ambition when it comes to the EU reset.# #RejoinEU 🇬🇧🇪🇺

This by Will Hutton. ‘So what is it to be? Bail out a stricken Trump with a third-rate trade deal on which he will boast Britain has kissed his arse? Or make common cause with the EU to boost our growth and fashion a new global free-trade architecture?’ www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Labour needs to react more swiftly to voter demand for close ties to the EU. There is some movement but it is sclerotic. Get a move on we cannot afford this appalling delay. Voters want Keir Starmer to focus on rebuilding trade ties with EU, poll reveals www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

⁦‪@mrjamesob‬⁩ here elevates a program & podcast to the status of public service with the help of some outstanding contributions on the utter economic idiocy of the Trump tariff debacle eg it was not insider trading by him but a panic driven reversal. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/j...

👏 @GordonBrown is absolutely right! Trump’s tariffs are a global threat — the answer? Rebuild ties with Europe, go beyond just fixing Brexit trade barriers. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Don’t overthink this. He’s asking for bribes.

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA): "I'm writing to the White House to demand who knew in advance that the President was going to, once again, flip flop on tariffs. And are people cashing in? There is just all too much opportunity for people in the White House and the administration to be insider trading"

I’m glad Trump folded. So what did we just go thru all that for?

The insiders seem to have had a 20min warning before the public

He literally tweeted: This is a great time to BUY! Just hours ago. And then he paused tariffs. He’s literally committing crimes in front of the entire world. 😳

Keir Starmer, "My priority — my only priority — is the people of Britain, and what makes them better off" So why is Labour keeping the UK outside of EU Single Market?

"Our most important defence ally is the US. Our largest trading partner is the EU. Yet somehow, we are chasing better trade terms with America while seeking stronger military ties with Europe. This approach is back to front." ~AA www.bestforbritain.org/starmers_str... @pimlicat.bsky.social

While I see all your conspiracy theories I regret to inform you that the horrible truth is that an old man with a tariff obsession has been given almost unlimited power in the world's richest country.

From a constitutionalist perspective the mad thing is that Congress could stop this at a stroke. The presidency only has tariff-setting powers as provided for by Congress. And Congress can take those powers away. But the Republicans in Congress would rather this happen than to do something.

Thank you 🙏 to the good people in America who are standing up to the destruction of their economy and democracy and for us all! Photos: Nationwide Protests Against Trump and Musk

Demonising migrants is not the answer to Britain's problems. Starmer's Government must focus on reversing austerity, addressing the climate crisis and tackling vast wealth inequality. Real change does not come by pandering to the far right.

Looks like another banger of a day on the Dow! Tired of winning? Great job Trump the greatest destroyer of wealth ever! Only special people can bankrupt Casinos who literally are built to guarantee profit!

@TimesRadio I heard Trump say the EU was formed solely to rip off the USA. The man is a total ignoramus & or liar. The EU & its predecessors was formed to promote peace and prosperity in Europe & has been largely successful. How is it possible that US has descended to this?

Hundreds of people protested in European cities of Paris, Berlin, Frankfurt, Berlin, Lisbon, & London with slogans such as "The world is tired of your bullshit Donald, be gone!" and "WTAF America?"

Europe's young adults, esp 15-29 yr olds more mobile than ever, constantly seeking out opportunities to live, study, work across borders With rising living costs, post-Brexit challenges, & employment insecurity, British youth in particular are increasingly eyeing the EU for better quality of life

HAPPENING NOW: The worldwide "Hands Off!" rallies are already underway at Trafalgar Square in London 👇🏻

The Reform Party civil war intensifies. Catherine Blaiklock, founder of the Brexit party, has apparently "reported Nigel Farage to the police" Although she goes on to add that the police did not take her claims seriously enough
