Thank you to the selection committee and thank you to all the amazing librarians who have supported DTACTTA, who continue to work so tirelessly to get books into the hands of the readers who need them most. I am so honored to be among these incredible titles! 💜

Anyway. Please keep supporting stories by marginalized authors. We need them now more than ever 💜 We write and read to connect with people. Right now, and in the years to come, when every day is stressful and scary, we need to keep doing that in every way.

l'll never be able to express how much I appreciate everyone who read DTACTTA, who bought copies/ checked it out from their libraries, left reviews, posted about it, wrote to tell me it meant something to them, and recommended it to the young people in their lives.

But the biggest highlight? The people who’ve posted and written to say my story meant something to them/their teen/their students. If you ask any author, you’ll find that this tops everything else. This is what we’ll remember. Readers will always be the best part 💜

⭐️Bookish Signs creating a gorgeous special edition ⭐️Doing virtual panels/blog interviews and being Kelly Andrews’ conversation partner in a real bookstore, with real readers, LIKE A REAL AUTHOR. ⭐️Selling foreign rights to Poland and Turkey (the Polish edition is out and BEAUTIFUL)

DEAD THINGS ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR by Robin Wasley. A small town on an old magic boundary, bad rich guy who wants more power, zombies, mercenaries, teens who rise up ala RED DAWN to save the day & more. Great action, great characters, weirdly relevant. www.simonandschuster.com/books/Dead-T...

I mention this now because what made me so emotional when I got this news... was realizing people could see the heart of it. And that means so very much to me. Thank you to the ALA selection committee. I am floored and so deeply honored to be among these brilliant finalists and their amazing debuts!

The truth is I came up with the plot last, after I had the character, after I knew where she had to begin and where she had to end, after I knew the people who would be with her on that journey. The real story, to me, was always about empathy and how it changes a person.

There’s the short answer, that it's a story of an ordinary girl who saves her town (and the world) from a magical zombie apocalypse. But then there's the long answer, the reason I wrote it.

It's going to snow all day tomorrow so l'll postpone bookstore visits til the 14th. If you are in a non-snowy place and happen to see my book in a bookstore, take a pic for me? OH BUT IF YOU TAKE A PIC OF IT WITH A CAT, I'LL LOVE YOU FOREVER!
