Post an unusual sign if you feel like it

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, or Marvel

Alternatively, a single presidency of an openly atheist native American will do, But they have to survive it.

People learned to accept that they can be indifferent, hostile even, to others within their own country who did not share their given, or chosen, cultural identity. As long as everyone had faith in the same constitution, the same myth, as long as they shared the same dream, everything would be fine.

Centuries of reverence for the "Founding Fathers," the myth of the "American Dream", and belief in "American Exceptionalism, have corroded the cohesion of the American society.

Societal cohesion, respect for the law, democracy: these are the building materials for a good constitution, not its products. USA has survived so far not because but rather in spite of its constitution.

A constitution is fundamental to the safety and health of a democratic society because we agree this to be the case. There is no intrinsic quality that makes it so.

The rules in the booklet of your board game matter little to a toddler who’s rampaging through your living room in a tantrum.

So where are these checks and balances? They do not exist. They have never existed. You can write all the rules you like on a piece of paper and have it be taught with reverence, but a constitution is not magic.

Who’s calling him Cheeto Benito? That’s not right. Fanta Führer? yes. Dorito Dictator? Maybe. TACO Tyrant? I don’t know. Cheeto Chief? Every day.

The corollary would be that a mayor could proclaim “right, the police are actually going to follow legal procedure from now on and, hear this, they are also going to respect the law!" and have it happen. Let’s see a mayor try that first!

To be fair to Rutte, he forgot he wasn’t speaking Dutch. To be fair to everyone else, Rutte is a chronic underachiever who fucked us here in the Netherlands for 13+ years and then left for NATO, leaving the door wide open to the far right. We deserved better, and so does NATO.

I saw it was you who posted it, so it caught my eye and, for a moment there, I thought I was having a stroke.

fundamentally unknowable? come on, Quanta, you can do better than this. That’s not right. Not everything has to be click bait.

Early follower here. Sorry to see you go. Thanks for the good times all these years. When I’m gone, a long time from now, hopefully, my daughter will clear out my office and ask herself WTF dad had a signed WTF poster on his wall.

An article that asks the question "What Satellite Images Reveal About the US Bombing of Iran’s Nuclear Sites" and answers “We Don’t Know." Someone’s dog ate their homework.

Ik heb liever 1000x immigranten dan één PVVer. En het maakt mij echt niet uit waar zij vandaan komen.

How sure are we that these “lawyers" aren’t a stack of Musk’s computers in a raincoat and a fedora?

I’m especially looking forward to see how he’s going to tackle the Ireland issue. Apparently, like Boris “no-KGB" Johnson, he too believes it can be solved without even considering rejoining, at least, the single market. Some Troubles don’t go away by just ignoring them.

This is all true, interesting, and absolutely devastating. The problem is that Starmer doesn’t even entertain the idea of being anything but shit on EU matters.

Is irony dead? I just cannot comprehend the magnitude of the apathy of this statement. It’s like Graham's number to the power of Graham’s number. Lest we forget: Russia keeps bombing civilians. Every night.

I know you write other books as well, and I’ve loved them all. I’ve got to say, though, I would not mind if you went Terry Pratchett on us and wrote another forty in this world. … But then we’d miss out on other great stuff you’d come up with. Oh, life’s hard. Thank you for the books!

Sadiq Khan goes through the same ordeal every single time he runs for mayor of London. And he’s, arguably, the best mayor the city’s ever had. It’s pure racism.

Most likely the poor guy who’d have to stand there while the ladder extended in slow motion.
