Just be diligent about laying out your hypothesis, your reasoning, and your measurement. Capture the learnings whatever the result.
Resist the urge to evaluate your decision based on the outcome. Did you follow a good process?
I’d say “the scientific method” qualifies as good process.

Is it something you can treat like an experiment? Go for it! So what if it isn’t “better.” Trying something that doesn’t work is just another learning opportunity.
If one of your team’s engineers tried something that didn’t work, had managed risk, and learned something - that’s a success, right?

Same - hit me recently in the context of database query languages.
I used SQL professionally in 1995, 2005, 2015, now in 2025…

I am very much unhappy with this template and about to go back to Hugo but am trying to focus on the content instead of messing with the platform.
I am still, of course, spending more time on the platform than on content.
Will fix soonest!

That's why the curve is flat for a bit as the new starter gets up to speed - but it's never at zero. Responsibility is always shared.

I agree, but I think in the very beginning of their careers most people are not equipped to navigate either the sheer range of possibilities laid out in front of them or the complicated processes and unspoken subtexts of their organisations.
A good manager's help is crucial in getting started.

I’ve said this for about five years in a row now with no results to show for it… any particular resources/path you plan to follow?

I was jaw-on-the-floor astonished the first time I figured it out.
