This, from today’s WSJ, would make a good economics exam question: “This idea that you can break trade, and not break the capital flow side, is a fantasy,” said Steven Blitz, chief U.S. economist at GlobalData TS Lombard.” #economy #markets #economics @wsj.com

The Trump administration has quietly doubled down on its decision to stop sending emergency food to children starving in Bangladesh, Somalia, and other countries. Without urgent intervention, these children might die within months, @hana-kiros.bsky.social reports.

“I can…assure you that were this a Republican president…targeting Democrats, I at least would speak out just as vigorously against it because if we are going to respect rule of law, the apparatus of the federal government cannot and should not be used as a partisan tool to bludgeon your enemies."

"The combination of tariffs and the mass cancellation of research funding threatens to lay waste to the tech and biomedical sectors with devastating precision, almost as if an enemy combatant had targeted key plants with a fleet of bombers." www.theatlantic.com/economy/arch...

I'm seeing grown-ass adults marvel at how high stocks jumped today - they must think their mom actually vanished when she played "peek-a-boo."

This is a big deal. Spread the word. But it’s tiny compared to the totality of what’s happening at NIH. Cure Research for all cancers, Alzheimer’s, everything is being gutted. Intentionally. It’s all getting burned to the ground but the news isn’t getting out. The new cures won’t be there for you.

1) Fox News is for real not showing stock-market ticker during this week's collapse. 2) Its economic news is "strong jobs report." 3) Every time I've checked in today, the coverage has been "illegal immigrants committing new crimes." This is state propaganda, on a par with North Korea or PRC.

And while the bodies of U.S. servicepeople are coming home

Trump has ample warning from financial markets of how harmful his tariffs will be. He is proceeding anyway, because the only way he can feel alive and fulfilled is by intentionally hurting people.

I may be mistaken, but I don’t think most Americans thought they were voting for a foreign policy where Russia is our boss and Canada is our enemy. Yet that’s what we’re getting.

I don't know who this guy is but he's absolute right.

Unconstitutional. Appropriations bills are laws. If the president is not bound by them, he can make laws by fiat and is acting like a dictator. No Democrat can vote for any appropriations or debt ceiling bill while this is happening.

Even with massive crimes in broad daylight, there's a whole realm of further crimes, hidden the way crimes normally are. Three cheers for normalcy, right?

Tom Friedman: "This is a total perversion of U.S. foreign policy practiced by every president since World War I. My fellow Americans, we are in completely uncharted waters, led by a president, who — well, I cannot believe he is a Russian agent, but he sure plays one on TV."

“Friday, February 28, 2025, will go into the history books as one of the grimmest days in American diplomacy,” writes @radiofreetom.bsky.social. Now “Putin, along with other dictators around the world, can finally look at Trump with confidence and think: one of us”: theatln.tc/FHJeRVAj

Donald Trump has disgraced the United States of America in countless ways since he first entered political life ten years ago. But he had never disgraced the nation as badly as he did today. He has brought shame on this country to an extent I had never thought possible. And he has only just begun.

Generations of American patriots, from our revolution onward, have fought for the principles Zelenskyy is risking his life to defend. But today, Donald Trump and JD Vance attacked Zelenskyy and pressured him to surrender the freedom of his people to the KGB war criminal who invaded Ukraine.

America has switched sides. therecord.media/hegseth-orde...

I think Trump might’ve lost Dave.

Here is a 2018 conversation between Jeff Bezos and German publisher Matthias Döpfner at a Business Insider event. Presumably, he is as crimson as a Washington State cherry today:

MSNBC worries about the perception that they’re not fair to R’s while Fox eats an $800m libel settlement to preserve its ability to lie about Ds. That’s the asymmetry that gives illiberalism a structural advantage. open.substack.com/pub/readtpa/...

NEW: A Houston man and Jan. 6 defendant has been arrested for a child sex crime -- two weeks after he was pardoned by Trump and released from a six-year prison stint for assaulting police with bear spray and a metal whip.
