Oh, and I do wish we'd move away from the university's messaging about the scale of job losses: we're cutting about 13% of academic posts, not 7%

My response (in empirical terms): they did but they don't

The FT's reporting made significant claims, casting doubt on the PM's judgment in appointing her to her ministerial role. 'I have not been able to obtain comprehensive comfort in relation to all the UK property-related matters referred to in the media' is hardly an exoneration.

Ha; yes, exactly. Though personally I'm still more puzzled by why on earth the Guardian would want to not only publish this, but to make it their leading item!

If we have little idea what form of UBI they might favour and no idea what it might replace, then I think it's pretty reasonable to describe that support as being cheap talk. Surely UBI advocates would be better off emphasising centre & right-wing support for actual BI proposals, where this exists.

Yet UBI advocates routinely cite Musk, Zuckerberg, Friedman and others, who would cut social security/welfare programmes if let within 10 yards of one.

It's perhaps another example of growing caution in setting and reporting against ambitious and broad-based poverty targets. The poverty line that is being replaced was itself pretty unusual - I can't think of another place where the implied equivalence scale of 2nd+ HH members is above 1.
