This seems utterly deranged, but he knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s trying to create a right wing pseudo-reality in which he can invoke the Insurrection Act and get the killing started, knowing that a lot of the mainstream media will help him do it.

It’s so dystopian to watch cable news now, cutting from hellish scenes of democracy being slaughtered to commercials for skin cream and prescription drugs. This is one fucked up society we’ve created here, folks.

I spent two years warning everyone I could that this was what MAGA was planning under Trump 2.0 but humans just aren’t wired to believe shit like this is possible.

Fuck anyone who could have voted for Kamala Harris last fall who chose not to.

Pulp all look like teachers that lost their school pupils in a cave collapse in 1987.

New @motherjones.com: Behind the chaos in LA is an ICE policy to raid workplaces in a bid to increase the number of deportations at all costs. Here's a bit on why and how they are doing it and the disastrous impact they could have on the US workforce: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

ABC, which recently agreed to a $16m Trump shakedown, responded to Leavitt's invective by caving again and suspended the reporter in question, Terry Moran

"The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear."

‘Hindle’s study allows us to access people of this parish in ways that novels and histories from above can’t emulate.’ Deborah Valenze what we can learn from the detailed demographic records of a 17th-century Midlands village: www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

LAPD said in the summer of 2020 that they can handle one large protest of 10k but they cannot handle ten protests of 1k. Do with that information accordingly

How very dare he

As the good prof notes, C19 France will give you all the examples you could ever want of both successful AND unsuccessful antigovernment mobilisation.

I'm late to this, but @annieabrams.bsky.social recently wrote a great piece on the stakes involved in reading and teaching literature, and it's essential reading for understanding what the "classical education" and charter-school "great books" people are actually trying to do.

“Firing back”

😕

It's extraordinary how brutal police are willing to be, the lengths to which they are willing to go, the internal solidarity they are willing to show, in order to deliver to U.S. citizens—the protection of whom is their ostensible jobs—the clear message, "we are at war with you."

Meanwhile, @financialtimes.com letters (7th June) call for Motorhead's Ace of Spades to be the National Anthem. You don't get letters like this in @theguardian.com

Following on from my earlier post about why men are more secretive than women, I’ve written about spotting the signs that a man is keeping secrets from you.

"Untether your psyche from overthinking. The sound of one hand clapping is simply what happens when the other hand has been amputated due to untreated type 2 diabetes."

In this Ohio diner, a closet case still means a 24-pack of Bud Lite you keep in your closet for emergencies. But they do know this: Jack Posobiec kicking off Pride month by talking about "phallocentric" Musk and Trump "going at it" is the kind of thing that straight guys say all the time.

I think Cork have just pulled off the greatest psyop ever.

The world of London's music promoters/clubs/festival organisers is a tiny cliquey world, full of people doing business with each other. So it's telling that when @ehgillett.bsky.social was asked to write about a major promoter, the outlet spiked his piece. partylines.substack.com/p/the-battle...

It's hugely naive to imagine that Reform's obvious and inevitable dysfunction, its endless rifts and spats, its utter incoherence on matters of policy, its deeply ugly views on pretty much everything will matter even in the slightest to the Great British Voting Public. We are way past all that.

Good morning rebels...

A friend of mine in med school was recently horrified to learn that she was the only one in her class staying up late to write her patient notes because literally everyone else was taking ChatGPT to generate them. Terrified for the future of privacy and medical care.

How far can Rojava swim against the imperialist tide? Last week in Kurdish news medyanews.net/how-far-can-...

Hahahaha. A lot of “comedy fandom” seems to have a sort of nostalgic brain injury. This is a good one.

Devastating. I'm sure I've read iterations of some of these in the actual pages of the @nytimes.com: “The president’s solutions-focused approach to legal roadblocks necessitated thinking outside the constitutional box.”

They're doing it on purpose now surely?

🚨 New: 'Shocking' scale of Labour’s Big Tech ties In its first 6 months, Labour ministers and top officials met with tech giants an average of *six times a week.* We’ve got the documents. 🧵 New on Democracy for Sale with @lucasamin.bsky.social democracyforsale.substack.com/p/revealed-s...

forcing JD Vance into the middle of this against his will is such an incredible bonus
