Big day for butterfly research. Many authors (led by @edwards-evoeco.bsky.social) and many more volunteers monitored across states to document rapid butterfly declines in USA. 🧪 Paper link: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... NYT story gift link: www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Some federal workers are going back to work. The USDA has been ordered to temporarily give over 5,000 workers their jobs back. Dozens of CDC scientists have been reinstated after being illegally fired. The National Science Foundation has rehired half of the workers it fired.

Running #Deepseek with its Multimodal model Janus-Pro-7b locally is really crazy. I show this camera trap picture and ask: "Explain this picture. What animal species do you see?" See the answer in the follow up post. #tech4wildlife

Congrats to the NYSDOT on their $324k award from the #WildlifeCrossingsPilotProgram and happy to say I had a small part in it! This allows us to develop a toolkit for identifying #roadkill and #connectivity opportunities. Safer roads! I look forward to working with you all!

Did this bear just randomly decided to lounge around in front of our camera trap or is it showing off? 🤩

I thought I knew a lot about raccoons, then I got this footage. Had to bring in @mikecove.bsky.social to help me figure it out. youtu.be/7-3c-VrYf1g?...

"If you kill a thing, see its body on the ground in front of you, you know that it is gone. It stands to reason that it cannot trouble you anymore." Unless it can. Turns out if you hunt coyotes because you feel you have too many...you get MORE COYOTES. teamtrash.substack.com/p/hunt-more-...

Pretty great 2 days of talking science and conservation with #SnapshotUSA and @WildInsights collaborators. Yearly reflecting helps us appreciate our progress and plot our ambitions for 2025. @mikecove.bsky.social

What if I told you that if you have coyote "problems" (as in, you feel there are too many), killing them...can make it WORSE? Me on @rolandkays.com 's latest paper, so glad his lab is studying this! teamtrash.substack.com/p/hunt-more-...
