Very helpful summary of court action re: NIH terminations.

News to make you smile. No kings! More Queens!

“Tesla’s driverless ‘robotaxis’ could launch in Austin as soon as June 22. But a demo in Austin today showed a $TSLA, manually driven to test its Full Self-Driving system, failed to stop for a child-sized dummy at a school bus—and hit it.” @cbsaustin @velez_tx

they never miss

Disappointed that University of Washington isn't on this list. What's up, UW?

I don’t know that social work can ever recover from its silence on genocide. Now that we know its stance on social justice is performative, what credibility does it have? I know many social workers who care deeply about social justice but we're no longer part of a profession that shares our values.

One thing I'm thinking about a lot today is how many people aren't gonna realize they're on Medicaid until they realize they're about to lose their Medicaid

A proud moment for the second city.

Strange interview... 🛟😷🧪 medsky sociology demography idsky www.science.org/content/arti...

Recent hero: my UW colleague and SSW MSW alum Caleb Banta-Green of @adaiuw.bsky.social on why he stood up to protest RFK until security kicked him out. www.seattletimes.com/opinion/i-st...

They're dismantling (what remains of) the social safety net and replacing it with a dragnet instead.

There is a time for small talk, and that time is as you are waiting to deplane.

What is it looking like for folx at social work departments in universities being forced to strip their courses of critical theories, anti-racist praxis, social justice, et cetera and any support from CSWE? I’m hearing of courses being stripped and no idea how the CSWE is intervening. Any word??

Shout out to a highly functional government agency--I forgot to sign my ballot. King County Elections let me know and had a seamless process to remedy by sending in signatures via my mobile phone.

If the news had stayed to this level of detail and simplicity instead of turning into 24 hour consumer slop we mughtbhave avoided some of this mess we see currently in. we should see the conglomerate effort of its parent paramount to change the news as because it wants a merger as the threat it is.

If I was in the white house and was going to sack Pete Hegseth, I wouldn't even tell him. I'd just add him to the group chat discussing his replacement and act like he wasn't there.

Loving the last minute emails about #APPAM2025...

That makes 5 of 18 Big Ten senates who've adopted MADCs: Rutgers Nebraska Indiana Michigan State Michigan And also UMass-Amherst. CUNY's Hunter College votes on Wednesday. Add YOUR faculty senate to the list, and DM me if I can help you with connections, advice, or anything! Share widely!!

(1/4) Thanks to higher ed presidents for standing up for shared values: tinyurl.com/23njnsfa. SLACs standing with R1s, private and publics, is a key act of solidarity in this moment of attack on higher ed. But let’s be clear: it’s not enough. It's not a Mutual Academic Defense Compact (#MADC).

I’m considering putting together a panel for APPAM on either mental health policy or policies affecting access to health care. Please email me if you have an abstract you’d be interested in contributing.

A couple of us are putting together an APPAM panel on post-pandemic school enrollment/access patterns, broadly conceived. Let me know if you or someone you know has a paper that might fit this theme.

Just announced: University of Michigan Faculty Senate resoundingly votes to support Big Ten academic mutual defense compact. 92.8% of over 3,000 votes.

Checking headlines and telling @aclu.org

Hey, no take backs.

What's that line about staying neutral itself being a position? That stance, and moreso complying, may destroy higher ed more thoroughly than the federal administration. Also: our students are watching.
