I like the idea of practising to be more indifferent to fate. I think I've discovered #Seneca at just the right time in life. The less I have, materially, but also emotionally, the less I have to lose, and I can reduce my exposure to negative events in the chaos of modern existence. #PhilSky

No. Look. I really try to be positive. I do. However, the utter soullessness of being marooned in a car dealership for what feels like it will be an infinity has broken me. Piped music that is essentially effluent. Ubiquitous male grooming (beards, teeth). Painful ice-white lighting. Make it stop.

Even if we cannot get to the heart of consciousness, we'll certainly (soon?) be able to construct credible proxies. What happens to us when we start undiscriminating acceptance of "software consciousness"? As cognitive biases lead us to impute emotion and purpose, what we "are" will be diminished?

Guitar practice is a strange, shifting, impenetrable activity. More, and more structured, practice definitely correlates with improvement. However, it is, in my experience, completely non-linear. You have "breakthroughs" and long periods of only incremental change. Sometimes the harder you try...
