Exploring AI's Role in Accessibility... We often talk about the bad side of AI (ethics, perpetuating biases, content theft), but AI has a huge potential to also help improve the lives of many people, from generative alternative text for images, voice preservation, voice recognition, and more.

Sunday night satisfaction: I've completed writing a new TPGi Tutor training course, Introduction to Mobile Accessibility. It still has to pass the Knowledge Center credibility tests, but I'm pretty happy with it. It's my job, but TBH I think writing a novel would be easier.

Alright! My visa's approved and flights are booked to attend the CSUN conference in March. California, here I come! #accessibility #conference

One of the things I appreciate about Bluesky is that it has brought back together (some of) the accessibility folks who helped make Twitter such a great space for accessibility learners circa 2020 to 2022. Seeing some of these folks show up here has been great. Like getting the gang back together.

The Environment Minister can put science ahead of the salmon industry's profits and protect the endangered Maugean skate before it becomes extinct. Help save the skate! Add your name > theaus.in/save_the_skate #auspol

So Australia. Channel 7 has to switch from the cricket to the news. Two South Australian batters in Adelaide Test, 50,000 people, one batter is on 99. Channel 7: "The news can wait". Head scores his century. Classic. #AUSvIND #cricket #AustraliaAllOver

If you use your voice to navigate websites, the #W3C Accessibility Conformance Testing Rules Community Group and Task Force want your help to test 27 controls: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... It'll help them understand which patterns work (and which don't) for #WCAG 2.5.3 Label in Name

New blog post out (first one in over a year 🥵): I tested how well different election dashboards implemented common dataviz accessibility principles, and explained where things went wrong, including lots of demos. fossheim.io/writing/post...

This is exactly right. The tech industry is full of progressives and lefty radicals, as well as friendly nerds who just want to build better comms infrastructure and protect your privacy. We have allies on the inside. Don't dismiss them.

So if you've enjoyed Just Enough Research, it would be awesome if you'd leave a review for the 2024 edition on Amazon. I would like people to buy the book elsewhere, but it's the only option for some, and currently one shitty anon 3 star review is haunting every single Amazon around the world.

Yes yes Black Friday/Cyber Monday *the* worst–but if you are going to spend some $$ this festie (sic) season, give it to one of the excellent folks who have online courses to make you better at doing what you do Rounded up here by @piccalil.li piccalil.li/links/black-...

🔮 Speculation Rules are great. Now they’re greater: csswizardry.com/2024/12/a-la...

Today's a great day to go to bsky.app/settings/acc... and enable "Require alt text before posting". That way you won't forget. It only takes a moment to write ALT text and it makes the whole system work better for everyone.

🙏🏿 Dear smart person, 🏆 What is the best accessibility audit report you've ever come across? What can reports improve? Multiple answers possible 📈 I feel like there's a lot of room for improvement 🛠️ Audit practices don't align with how we want to fix things #accessibility

If you're an accessibility professional, don't miss your opportunity to take part in the Web Aim Global Digital Accessibility Salary Survey. It only takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete. It will help strengthen arguments for us, and highlight pay gaps. webaim.org/projects/sal... #accessibility #a11y

Very pleased that just about every @webdirections.bsky.social Developer Summit conf session I MCed directly referenced #accessibility. It's how it should be, of course. There's hope!

After 15+ years of teaching, architecting & delivering CSS for global organisations & startups, I’ve collated that experience into an extensive course. Complete CSS has taken nearly a year to produce and finally, it’s officially live for a limited Black Friday launch price of £189 complete-css.com

Heading to Sydney today for three days of @webdirections.bsky.social conferencing, 2 day Developer Summit and the very exciting 1 day Next. I've been going for 21 years - this conf made me. Hope to see some of you there. webdirections.org #WebDev #conferences
