the only city i've ever gotten shit from a stranger for "where are you from?" "new york*" is chicago.
Which is weird because pretty much everyone in NY loves chicago.
(my time visiting Boston has been more north of the Charles and with some hipsters in JP)

There can be some Eastern New England (Boston) "r" dropping near RI - and some New Yawk "r" dropping in the metro north corridor.
& I've heard some say central new england (hartford, springfield) speakers sound vaguely "canadian" but I don't hear it myself, as its my native accent.
