I feel a lot of this kind of feedback boils down to the “boss baby” tweet; someone with limited exposure to different media types trying to draw parallels and recognition from a narrow frame of reference. Which is maddening for how much it affects you, but with which you have so little control over!

I don’t mind an earned jump scare, can even usually forgive most unearned jump scares, but multiple instances of hearing a child scream in distress puts my head & heart in a ‘react’ mode that is not conducive to a viewing experience to enjoy.

this is ostensibly how I felt about the skinamadinkarink movie; went in fully willing to give it a fair shake, but after about the second or third child-screaming-at-top-of-lungs jump scare I tapped out. creates a completely unenjoyable headspace, and was clear they weren’t about to stop doing it.
