the world & writing of this one are really on another level, i was like is this really a bethesda game?? they were this good at that stuff before?? it's such an enchanting & unique tapestry, even just reading people's dialogues or the lore books you sink into the world

my first hour of this game was confusing and frustrating and i almost gave up, it's so much slower and less friendly than the series became after it. but i pushed through because i wanted to like it and i'm so glad i did, this game is *so* rewarding when you really put the time into it.

[game] The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind this game is so fucking good man, i'm converted. this is easily the best one. oblivion and skyrim are a lot of fun, but this one was like lightning in a bottle. i feel like i could have a LOT to say about this game but ill try to keep it short for the thread

my taste in fictional architecture is unpopular but consistent

being a mage in this one rocked, spellcrafting is so cool and im retroactively mad they dropped it in skyrim. still a lot for me to explore in this game and i will do so for sure. anyway next im trying morrowind for the first time 🤘 (3/3)

the story was nothing special and the final "boss fight" where the player is just locked in place watching a different guy kill the big demon was hilariously underwhelming. also it crashed every single day i played, even with patch & bugfix mods. but still... it's such a nice vibe game yknow (2/3)

[game] The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion i have like 450 hours in skyrim and had dabbled in this one a bit before, but this was my first thorough oblivion playthrough & my first time actually finishing the main story of one of these games lol (1/3)

[album] Silver Apples - Contact heard some songs from this band here and there for years but finally properly listened to an album. i'm sure everything i could say about this band someone has already said better, though. great album with such a cool, crunchy sound. "You and I" is so good

[album] Jimsaku - MEGA db fun mix of jazzy intricate dnb with some big dramatic jpop melodies in there. "struttin" is my fav track, the swing drums on top of fully straight dnb hats is super cool

[game] Aotenjo: Infinite Hands still haven't even played balatro (i know) but i've been looking forward to this game since hearing about it, and it totally lives up to my expectations, this is a ton of fun. really accessible & compulsively playable. looking forward to digging more into its depths

[album] Piero Umiliani - Tra scienza e fantascienza neat kooky synth themes; kind of a cool mix of cold, spacey sounds with deep analog warmth in the bass and drums. umiliani's funk work gives him a good sense for basslines, which are all great here

[album] Caldera - Sky Islands amazingly colourful latin jazz with super lush funk arrangements & warm synths, loved this

[album] Onra - Chinoiseries, Pt. 3 random find on apple music. it's like the midpoint of wu-tang and vaporwave. i like the idea, and there's some tracks i really like, but a lot of it blends into the same old lo fi aesthetic soup. i didn't really need an hour of it.

[album] Miles Davis - Filles de Kilimanjaro interesting mid-career miles, you can hear him on the verge of his move from melodic improvisation towards creating soundscapes. my favs were the textural opening track and the chill droney groove of the title track. one of his coolest cover arts too

[album] Jean-Luc Ponty - Civilized Evil listened to this fully on the promise of the cover. the first half totally delivered, it's such good cosmic jazz with great atmosphere. the second half disappointed, though, i felt like it lost the atmosphere and just became generically bright funk.

[album] Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior despite the theming almost none of this sounds medieval but it does have some great funky synths. very straightforward and easy to like

[album] Stanley Clarke - School Days short album that i listened to on a whim. not as into the jazz rock tracks personally but "The Dancer" is one of the coolest discoveries i've made in a while. such a unique atmosphere & arrangement for 80s funk, really inspiring. seriously listen to this 👇

[book] Kinkakuji by Yukio Mishima mishima's fixations & ideas are so simple and laid out clearly for anyone to pick up on, but he explores them inside & out from a million different angles that no one else would think of. he was the perfect person to adapt this particular story into a novel.

as a game, just packed with an insane amount of fun stuff. as a story, it's not the most polished one in the series but i love its scale and ambition, and its commitment to and love for its characters. made me cry like 15 times again. will probably 100% it before pirates in hawaii 😋 (2/2)

[game] Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (second playthrough) love this game so so much, i could talk about it all day. only been a year since it dropped but replaying the whole series and finally getting back to this one, just exploring the map the first time in hawaii was already nostalgic. (1/2)

[game] Professor Layton & the Diabolical Box (JP version) you can tell that they were more ambitious this time but i think the first game had more consistently fun puzzles and its simple charm was a bit more intuitively likeable to me. still a lovely game though. disappearing act 4 was actual hell

[album] Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Fanclub really liked the first half of this, they're playing with more intricate songwriting and tight rhythms. the second half loses sight of this a bit and just feels a bit more soupy and less precise. waltz in codebook, black out & blue train are all great

[album] Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Kimitsunagi 5M at first glance it sounds a lot like Sol-fa but their melody writing just wasn't as good here, none of it is as catchy or memorable and the vocals are not as emotive. the lyrics are still nice though

[album] Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Sol-fa i had this on kinda in the background for the last couple days but it drew me in and i gave it a proper listen today. really like this, nostalgic melancholy pop rock with lovely lyrics & a hook good enough to be the single on pretty much every track

unbelievably inventive in form and attitude to genre; the self-evident work of an author who understands their genre inside out and is playing with it in ways no one else has even thought of. this was really incredible, will stick with me for a long time (2/2)

[book] Dogra Magra by Yumeno Kyusaku (really finished this a few days ago but i wanted to talk about it) a one of a kind reading experience. ruthless with how difficult and obtuse it makes itself but so addictively fascinating that you just have to push through as it sucks you in further. (1/2)

i think i will do a media thread here next year, at least to give myself an excuse to talk about things i like without worrying about who cares
