Movies you have watched more than six times, GIFs only

Last night before bed I went into my daughter's room to check on her and tuck her in. She was lying on her back, snoring lightly with her arms up by her head. I watched her for a moment, listening to her breathing before whispering 'good night'. What a privilege it is to get moments like that.

I just got a digital proof of this and I CAN'T WAIT! Thanks @catherineacooper.bsky.social!

Oooh today is my favourite kind of day: I'm starting a new book! The new book - of course - is currently Shrödinger's book: both the best and the worst book ever written. And for the first 20k words in my deluded mind it's usually the best so yayyyyyy for delusions and long may it continue!

Do you ever have one of those days where everything goes wrong? Yesterday was one of those: everything felt off and I just wanted to reset the day. Instead I went to get some shopping and dropped my phone and shattered the screen beyond repair, making the day even worse. Today is better.

Update: today my daughter ate ham sandwiches at a party and then came home and demanded chicken nuggets. On the subject of dinner tomorrow she asked for "something pescatarians don't eat"... so never mind, I guess? 😂

The hardest thing about being a writer is that you absolutely have to work it like a job, but it will not pay you like a job. This job pays like a hobby with prizes.

If you'd like to support your fave authors in 2025 but you're skint, you could: - make a social media post about the book, just as basic as "i enjoyed this" and a picture (don't forget alt-text) - rec it in a relevant reddit thread or Goodreads forum or Facebook group Word of mouth has an impact!

In the Northern Hemisphere, we have now done the darkest five weeks of the year. In the UK the dawn is getting a little earlier and sunset a little later every day. (If tempted to reply “yes but the world is awful”, please don’t. I notice the days getting longer for myself as much as anyone else.)

I just found this very old public transport ticket in my daughter's room while cleaning. It's an Edinburgh child ticket for either a bus or a tram, and it cost 4d on April 19 but I'm not sure of the date. Pre-1971 (because of decimalisation) is all I can deduce. 🧵

How to write: Stop not writing. Keep your butt in the chair. Write really bad small sections of the whole—passages, moments, episodes, memories—til you have an incredibly shitty 1st draft. Then take out the boring parts, the lies and pretensions. Then write a better 2nd draft.

Hey, #foodsky! My almost-4yo wants to be pescatarian and we'd like to support her. Can you share your easy kid-friendly recipes, please?

The thing most of us won't admit about parenting is that we all secretly feel like the mum in Freaky Friday... AFTER the incapable teenager inhabits her body and attempts to emulate an adult

I'm so pleased that my latest book, My Husband's Ex, has featured in the @peoplesfriendmag.bsky.social Winter Special edition. Writer Lynne Hallett explores the excellent combination of Christmas and psychological thrillers 🤩 @bookouture.bsky.social

That's the Delivery Driver Snack Box over for another year. I've loved the daily interactions with the many posties and delivery drivers over the past few weeks! I highly recommend doing it if it's practicable where you live.

What a photograph.

Gisèle Pelicot

This is the person of the year.

What's the first major news story you remember as a child? Princess Diana's death. My mum and I were in bed reading What Katy Did when my dad came into the room to tell us. We closed the book to watch the news and never finished reading.

Sometimes I feel like Amazon doesn't know me at all.

Post a gif of a movie you could watch over and over and over

Age yourself with a movie you saw in the cinema as a kid.

My daughter's goal for next year is to "learn to do cartwheels" and that makes me so happy

Over 2+ years of working on a biography of Elon Musk, I've learned that his ambitions are significantly grander than anyone realizes. He wants to be the first trillionaire ever. He wants to be the most famous human who ever lived. He wants to rule the world. He wants to live forever. All literally.

Good news! Please share! The Society of Authors (@societyofauthors.bsky.social) have put out an official statement calling on celebrities, publishers & agents to properly acknowledge, promote & recompense the expert professional authors (“ghostwriters“ & “co-creators”) behind “celebrity fiction”. 1/

I just gave blood for the first time since my daughter was born nearly 4 years ago (covid, pregnancy and childcare got in the way). No matter how much time has passed I'm always so struck by what a seamless, efficient and pleasant experience it is. If you were looking for a sign, here it is!
