It is interesting that I’ve done this every year for at least a decade on Twitter. But it was only on Bluesky that I’ve had people telling me that just noticing facts about the position of the Earth in relation to the Sun is *too optimistic*.

(I did have a locked account on Twitter though.)

Look at another way. It feels incongruous that the days are getting longer when, here at least, we still have most of the winter yet to come. We settle in for a long haul here, and I always feel that the shortest day of the year ought to be sometime in February, when winter is at its peak.

It does feel odd doesn't it. I also think we should move the start of the year so the winter solstice is New Year's Eve - which I know doesn't work because it varies everywhere, but that's how my personal time frame works.
