I'm here to promote native plant gardening and inspire people to join https://homegrownnationalpark.org/ with photos from my garden. Fiber arts and handmade wardrobe hobbies may also make an appearance.

Tis the season to plant seeds fa-la-la-la-la #nativeplants

Just finished the DRK Everyday sock in Must Stash Yarn color Acadia (toe and heel stash yarn) #knitting

I pre-ordered some bare root Castanea pumila or Allegheny Chinquapin trees for spring. Anyone else have experience growing them?

Wishing everyone a Happy and peaceful Thanksgiving! Wild turkey in my yard. Pic taken last year. Long Island, NY 🪶 #birds #wildlifephotography #nature #turkeys #Thanksgiving

Symphyotrichum lanceolatum or white- panicle aster. This one showed up on its own when we built our pond. It tends to colonize disturbed areas. I'm hoping to catch some photos of frost on these seed heads

New find today, the fruits of #killyourlawn

"If our landscapes all look the same from state to state and country to country--using the same plants in the same ways--we lose our sense of self, place, and compassion for the community as a whole." Benjamin Vogt in A New Garden Ethic Spring ephemeral mertensia virginica; my garden April '24

Such a good opening to an article in my WA Native Plant Society magazine. #KillYourLawn

"Your garden is a protest. It is a place of defiant compassion. It is a space to help sustain wildlife and ecosystem function while providing an aesthetic response that moves you[...]Your garden is a protest for all the ways in which we deny our life by denying other lives." Benjamin Vogt

Salix discolor aka American Pussy Willow is an early pollen source for native bees and a larval host for several months and butterflies. Something has been enjoying mine. It is easy to root from cuttings and loves water. Don't plant near your foundation. #nativeplants

Pycnanthemum muticum or clustered mountain mint is found naturally in woodlands and meadows in the eastern US. Buzzing with insects all summer. Check out the splash of purple on those unassuming flowers.

My pipedream is that everyone will plant lupinus perennis like it's the new milkweed and the karner blue butterfly will come back to Pennsylvania. What's your niche interest? I'll plant for it too. #nativeplants

By far my favorite garden addition this year has been the wildlife pond. It has supported birds, frogs, toads, dragonflies, beetles, snails, mud dauber wasps and aquatic plants. Hummingbirds came to visit the cardinal flowers. 10/10 would recommend #nativeplants
