Yeeessss

You can tell they don’t know how to make a map when they have a region called “Great Lakes” that doesn’t include Michigan.

Last night a damaging tornado in Lewisville, TX went unwarned. This will likely be our reality moving forward as DOGE/Trump continue to slash NOAA & the NWS. NWS offices have been understaffed and underfunded for decades with many mets pulling double shifts during tornado outbreaks.

For those who don’t know what NOAA’s Radar Operations Center (ROC) does, they are the tech experts who keep our nation’s weather radars running, 24/7. ROC has a hotline NWS offices can call for help getting broken radars working again quickly. www.roc.noaa.gov

Okies, put your weather radio batteries in! Everyone else: Look: a mesoscale discussion about overnight tornado potential in Oklahoma, issued by amazingly talented federal employees who serve everyone. Thank you for your service, @wxliz.bsky.social and Jared Guyer. www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/...

I don't how those of us in the meteorology field can be any more clear: This would be catastrophic if it comes to pass. The private sector simply CAN NOT do what NOAA and the National Weather Service do for our country every day. Forecasting would suffer and all of us would suffer for this.

Who needs radars or weather models to operate, anyway

This is extremely bad.

NOAA returns/produces so much more money to the American economy than it costs, no stories about any of this should allow them the absolutely bullshit "savings" framing

More feds should be like Jeremy. Fuck doge and everyone that supports them ✊

I am heartbroken for my NWS colleagues today. Working in the weather field is a calling many of us feel in our bones. We are drawn to the power and beauty of the atmosphere and joined in a desire to help and serve others. To everyone affected, I am sorry.

It bears repeating.

“My weather app does it better!” -Weather Watches/Warnings? NWS -Forecast data? NWS -Observations? NWS -Satellite? NOAA/NESDIS -Futurecast modeling data? You guessed it, NWS (via EMC). -Climatology data? The weather data compiled over a long period by techs. -Outlooks? NWS Food for thought. 💭

RadarScope wouldn’t, and couldn’t, exist without the National Weather Service. Almost everything we do is built on top of stuff that they build and distribute. We wouldn’t exist without them.

Donald Trump has disgraced the United States of America in countless ways since he first entered political life ten years ago. But he had never disgraced the nation as badly as he did today. He has brought shame on this country to an extent I had never thought possible. And he has only just begun.

JD Vance asked Zelensky: "Have you said thank you once?" Here's a weird thought. Since the Ukrainians have spent the last three years defending democracy against an aggressor that threatens our allies and the world order, maybe, just maybe, JD Vance should be the one saying thank you?

Love the support we’re getting from our National Weather Center partners! Thanks today to OU School of Meteorology. I definitely picked the wrong week to stop eating donuts.

No, this is the most ashamed you've felt as an American *so far*.

There might be a lot to be upset about, and things may seem dark… but the kindness and generosity of people will never cease to humble and astound me. Thank you.

“You’ll be fine, just get another job. Surely you can do science somewhere else!” They literally want to defund science. There will be no science jobs left to be had. Call your representatives.

Second this! But please don't forget about the folks in the other NOAA Line Offices. The folks in OAR, NESDIS, etc are developing our future weather radar technologies, operational forecast models, warning paradigms... the list goes on. The entire enterprise is valuable and deserves to be saved. 🥺

i was a part of the probationary employee firings at the national weather service today. being a part of the environmental modeling center is all i have ever known in my career. it is where i always wanted to be.

Firing probationary employees means firing early career people with the most future potential and veterans who were so damn good at their jobs that they got promoted. It’s exactly what you wouldn’t do to make an organization more efficient, and exactly what you would do if you wanted to destroy it.

All probationary federal employees at NOAA’s EMC that’s responsible for keeping all US weather model systems running have been fired with 1 hours notice. And that includes me and colleagues. We will not go quietly because we care about the NOAA mission to protect the public.

To everyone at NOAA fired today: You are an incredible human being. You signed up to serve the public. I deeply appreciate what you've given to your team, to NOAA, to our country as a whole. Your firing is unconscionable. It runs counter to the values we stand for. And we will stand up for you.

There is absolutely no timeline where a weakened National Weather Service and NOAA is a positive thing.

We are.

NWS is already understaffed, and this mass firing is only going to increase the chance that warnings are not issued in a timely manner and that key equipment like radars and IT systems will fail at the worst time.

The hammer fell on NOAA/NWS this afternoon. 😭💔 There were no exceptions. All probationary employees.

NOAA's Environmental Modeling Center: They are responsible for the development and implementation of more than 20 numerical prediction systems — transitioning these systems into operations for National Weather Service, with the goal of expanding that reach to the broader meteorology community.

The senselessness of the cuts this administration is doing is unbelievable. All so that the insanely rich and powerful can maintain it. To my NOAA friends (and all you dedicated civil servants) I’m so sorry. (Also, I know I may end up joining you eventually).

The talent pool that is being lost within NOAA is immeasurable - some of the best and brightest that have dedicated their lives to the betterment of society and service to others The people and the mission were way more important than any paycheck So incredibly saddened for so many

Several confirmed terminations of probationary employees across NOAA today. These are good, hardworking, dedicated public servants working to better our country and its people whose lives, careers, and livelihoods are being destroyed w/o cause. Absolutely heartbroken. This is wrong.

We used to be a proper operating system.

A lot goes into drafting, player evaluations, and team makeup but looking back on those mid-10's drafts the Sixers ended up with Okafor, Simmons, and Fultz They were all drafted before Porzingis, Brown, and Tatum That's a very rough scene

Oh no, the Thunder have another 19 point lead over the Wolves 😬

“Stunning”. If only it were actually stunning.

Biden’s America, amiright?
