“Paid protesters” has been a reliable excuse for the right since the civil rights era. Segregationists claimed the high schoolers who desegregated Central High in Little Rock were paid to do so.

EXCLUSIVE(S): In pair of Lent-focused letters, major Christian leaders and denominations blast the Trump admin, call on fellow Christians to take action to protect immigrants, refugees and the poor as a matter of faith. religionnews.com/2025/03/04/c...

I need the institution where I teach (NYU) to respond clearly and unequivocally saying this is unconstitutional and they will not be adhering to it. This is a red line.

This is not about cleaning up after last year’s protests; this is about getting out ahead of what is coming.

Relentless documentation is one way journalists can contribute and work against "flooding the zone."

My dream is that the Tesla Berlin factory gets commandeered by the EU and turned into and arms and armament facility to provide weapons & ammo for Ukraine.

Corporate media would be a hundred times as outraged by this breach of decorum as they have been about the daily constitutional crises and illegal closures that have actually cost human lives already. Which is all the more reason to do it, honestly.

Missouri has been running the pilot for Project 2025 for a couple of decades. With a GOP Supermajority, over 30% of our schools are on a four-day week. We fund vouchers for private religious schools. Our starting teachers are 50th in the nation for pay and they pay for their own supplies.

i just listened to a great @radiolab.bsky.social podcast about this! Highly recommended

Gun lobbyists gave Cambridge Analytica a trove of data on gun owners derived from warranty cards, voter rolls, hunting licenses and other sources. Here’s how Cambridge used the info to drum up support for the gun industry’s preferred candidates.

Calling the tech oligarchs the "Nerd Reich" is nasty work 😂😂😂

I keep receipts. 2016.

Beyond parody — after taking a blowtorch to the federal government the Trump administration is now in court saying they can’t obey court orders because their staff has been cut 🤔

This is Winston Churchill visiting Washington DC to request assistance in the war against Germany. Notice he is wearing a "zip suit" and not a traditional suit. This was to honor the British troops--the same reason Zelensky dresses the way he does.

Congratulations to E. Ethelbert Miller, a literary icon! #poetry

In a time when personal health decisions are under attack, protecting health data is more urgent than ever. New York has the opportunity to lead. Gov. Hochul should sign A.2141/S.929 today.

#SCOOP: the new National Archives' day-to-day leader—who's the head of the private Nixon Foundation—fired a total of 27 employees across the presidential library system, including the deputy director of [checks notes] the Nixon. Most were in public-facing roles. #NARA medium.com/@anthony_cla...

If you want to take a stand about art at the Kennedy Center, buy tickets for this significant and socially relevant work. Staying away hurts the artists more than the administration, and if new work like this sells poorly, it gives them an excuse to say it's unpopular, and stop programming it.

If you're a white dude with some flexibility in your life, get a group of your like-minded bros together & go to these events to act as counterbalance to these "private security forces." Get in their way. Occupy space. Ask for their IDs. Outnumber them. Make their fascism difficult.

Man he really called it

The Constitution gives Congress power to establish the U.S. Postal Service. It did, by law, during the Washington administration. Its status as an independent agency was established by Congress in law. USPS is wildly popular with the American people and its service is essential and irreplaceable.

What i don’t get is the number of people who still believe the ridiculous idea that this multiple-time bankrupt terrible buisness laughing stock was ever good at running a company. He killed every company he ran! The Apprentice TV show has so much to answer for.

One of my tools as a critic had been a Twitter list called, "Top Journalism Linkers." Designed so that I could survey the space. It was the first thing I read in the morning. When I left it had 6.8K users. Over the weekend I rebuilt it for Bluesky. You can subscribe. bsky.app/profile/jayr...

Some good news amid the horror. Sally is running for a seat on the Albemarle County (VA) Board of Supervisors. She's super smart about local issues & is also a teacher, the mother of a big family, & a darn good historian. She'll be great in the BOS.

Hey Happy Presidents Day when arguably the greatest President in American history Abraham Lincoln began his national political career in Congress by opposing the Mexican War as a land grab for slavery.

The great jazz, blues, soul, Caribbean , Brazilian and more station WPFW in Washington DC is once again doing a fundraiser right now. They don't get contributions from the big entities that help npr stations wpfwfm.org/radio/
