They surely are.

There is literally HIV being transmitted from mom to baby because of the illegal shutdown of US AID and now Trump’s State Department wants to spend 400 million dollars on Tesla cyber trucks. This is not about efficiency. It’s a smash and grab.

Project 2025 was unpopular because of things like the plan for Trump to shut down the CFPB, which helps you get your money back if a bank cheats you.

Berkeley next please! @adenaishii.bsky.social @taplinterry.bsky.social @markhumbert.bsky.social @igortregub.bsky.social @cecilialunaparra.bsky.social

This is how bad it is in the US. The American Bar Association had to put out a statement in support of the Rule of Law. www.americanbar.org/news/abanews...

An acre of land can power a car to go 13,000 miles per year using biofuel (corn ethanol), or 900,000 miles per year using solar.

We are going to win. But not immediately.

As the Berkeley population ages because young people can’t afford to move here, the roads become more deadly because we have nothing but auto centric infrastructure. It will happen elsewhere. It’s just happening here first Housing. Road safety. Cars. Affordability. Climate. It’s all connected.

Don't let them pretend to believe in a meritocracy

US DOT climate page, yesterday and today

Early result of Congestion Pricing show a 51%(!!) drop in traffic injuries compared to the same period in 2024. Obviously there will be some bounce back, but it means there are already ~40 in walking around NYC who *would* have been a crash victim otherwise. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/01/23/c...

Trump a huge risk to public transit (in addition to way too many other important policies)

Is this an unleashing energy dominance?

This is actually a constitutional crisis in the making.

Elon Musk claims he is an expert video game player This video shows an actual expert video game player watch him play and realize Elon sucks Like everything else this fraudster does: take credit for stuff other people do. He pays people to level him up on video games Wtf is wrong with this Elon

“Financial markets, would naturally force Americans to confront climate and deter them from flocking to places where human habitation is increasingly untenable. Unfortunately, this basic system of supply and demand has been stymied by regional and federal policies” www.nytimes.com/2025/01/16/o...

The response to the wildfires has really called the bluff of California leadership. What do we do when we actually want to get housing rebuilt after the fire? Suspend environmental reviews and coastal permits, end discretionary reviews, massively expedite permitting....

I think we can change the world by having protected bike lanes and secure bike parking everywhere.

this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldn’t even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)

Was that an earthquake or a prolonged door slamming #berkeley

remarkable to me that far from seeming cool or masculine zuck seems like an even bigger loser — the kind of nerd who preemptively gives his lunch money to the bully and thanks him for the opportunity

Rewilding Point Reyes. Wild to see

Super interesting science behind (part of) why the fire risk was so high this year. Previous wet winters produced lots of grass and shrub growth that was extra fuel this dry winter year.

Wisdom from his many years.

Climate change requires a two-pronged response: disinvestment from the sources of harm and climate-resilient placemaking. Much of the destruction in LA is coming from hills and other high-risk areas with sprawling suburbs. Density keeps folks away from danger and enables a more effective response.

Glad to see an article about prop 13 in the SF chronicle. Prop 13 is a state wrecker and driver of inequity. California property tax map: How much Prop 13 is saving homeowners by ZIP code www.sfchronicle.com/projects/202...

SFBA Bench Collective, which installs benches at bus stops that need them, is an awesome project and well worth supporting (see below). bench.builders

floor area ratio (FAR) limits are designed to stop housing. in 1961 new york city capped FAR at 12 to prevent affordable housing which they dubbed “vertical slums”. the empire state building’s FAR is 25. why do we keep using FAR?

I hope it’s wildly successful and they bring it to LA and SF

In no other arena would requiring that for Americans pay for what they use get more news coverage and have required as much activism and grit to win. Americans are simply unable to grasp that driving and parking actually have a cost. Motonormativity is an overwhelming (and bad) force in the US.

Ignoring climate change makes the inevitable impact worse actually 😫 www.nytimes.com/2025/01/03/c...

LET’S FUCKING GO!!! CONGESTION PRICING OFFICIALLY STARTS WHEN THE CLOCK STRIKES MIDNIGHT TOMORROW!!

This Speaker vote should remind all of us that literally nothing Republicans try to do will be easy, or a foregone conclusion. And often, they are going to have to come to Democrats to enact anything at all. We have lost power but we are not powerless.

The Muni Monthly Pass now costs $1020 annually. A Residential Parking Pass (RPP) costs $190. Why is it 5 times cheaper to store an entire car curbside than to ride Muni?

Why is California forcing insurance companies to insure more fire-risk homes???!! Isn’t this the opposite of what we should be doing? Infuriating. “Insurance companies must also commit to writing more policies in wildfire-prone parts of the state” www.sfchronicle.com/climate/arti...
