This is an admin that's trying to reshape reality in their image and one way to do that is to delete the data sources that don't agree with the image they are trying to foster. This is really dumb and dangerous but that's what people wanted apparently.

Yeah maybe that's why. I definitely read a Wired story already this month. But I'll try Martha. She may have posted it without paywall.

Aww I'd love to read but it's paywalled.

R. A. Meenan wrote a really lovely letter with references to hist students, to explain why using GenAI is not what education is about. Have a look: bsky.app/profile/zyea...

"...showcases her smart and introspective command of space opera. Well-developed characters highlight not only big ideas of artificial intelligence, xenophobia, and data preservation but family dynamics and scientific rivalries." - Library Journal āļø review www.libraryjournal.com/review/the-f...

"Elizabeth Bear’s White Space series is the sociopolitical science fiction I’ve always wanted: profoundly interested in how people negotiate ethics and interdependence through a frame of future emotional and governmental technologies. Brilliant, humane, and compelling." - @byzantienne.bsky.social

Sometimes these "let's hope for 3%" coupon moves were really last-minute, too. Like, they’d send files and tell us to print them. When we were asked to print our own, I always made sure to buy light-pink or light-blue paper so I could visually check if coupons I handed out were the ones coming in.

Because I was in a chain, I had access to coupon codes for example. Getting a 3% cash-in rate on a coupon was great. If you handed out 1000 coupons and thirty came back? HUZZAH!

Also, while I’m on a roll here because I could talk Bookstore stuff for hours and hours, I don’t think non-book industry people get how small a number of engagement with a promotion was considered a success?

Some just give me "here’s a single number total of sales and what you’re owed/how much you’ve earned vs. your current advance number," and some break it down to "e-book, paperback, hardcover, what rate they were sold at, library sales vs nonlibrary sales, etc." It’s… really patchwork?
