I try to focus on scicomm here, but this topic is very much on my mind. Why are inheritance taxes not much much higher. Like Bill Gates, I’m for a very high rate; 90% would be completely fine. And not just for the likes of Gates but but also for people like myself. www.economist.com/leaders/2025...

Its out.... Plant pathogenic fungi hijack phosphate signaling with conserved enzymatic effectors | Science www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... A wonderful collaboration with the Schaffrath @rwth.bsky.social and Oliveira-Garcia groups! Huge credit to Carl Mcombe and Alex Wegner.

With the expansion in melatonin research in plants, is there a plant with a absolute knockout in either melatonin production and/or perception? We are trying to see if there are the tools to get a good answer with our favorite pathogen/metabolites.

Given the discussion today. #EthicalPublishing is possible. Our ethos for many years now: 1. All papers preprinted along with data. 2. No commercial publishers. 3. Only publish in scientific society journals and with reputable non-profit publishers. 4. Collaborators do what they want.

Fantastic talk by @somssich.bsky.social - loving the tag line at the bottom “published soon in a society journal” #MPB2025

Our perspective on the horizontal transfer of accessory chromosomes in fungi is now available in Heredity: rdcu.be/d9jOR. It may be a regulated process. Very proud of this collaborative effort with Henrik de Fine Licht (@henriklicht.bsky.social) and Remco Stam (@rstam.bsky.social)!

Not sleuths on a leash, but a growing independent sleuth community. Don't plead with publishers and authorities, but make fraud public. Don't educate "stakeholders", but inform media & public about #papermill problem.
