🌱🔬 Maximizing data reuse in agricultural genomics! Key challenges - metadata gaps, interoperability, access barriers - and proposes solutions to unlock the full potential of genomic data. 🚀🌾 doi.org/10.1093/giga... #Genomics #OpenScience 29/🧵

This shows that even between closely related species, old genes and central can adopt new roles. Our NAC29 co-opted a role in resistance and now signals to a unique set of S pennellii defence genes!

We also find cases (e.g NAC29) where the gene is present in all species, yet the defence-associated role can only be found in one species! E.In four species, as in literature, this gene shows no role in defence. S. pennellii we see it central in the network and expression correlates with resistance

When we then look at the central elements in these clusters, we find that some regulators that are involved in one species also involved in other species. No surprise. We earlier saw many genes in these species are old and each tomato has homologs.

We find that clusters of genes that are strongly resistance/defence associated in one species only partly associate with defence/resistance in the other species.

Using Weighted Gene Coexpression Network Analyses we then identified how the unique genes in each species are connected to the defence network (especially central hubs) and to which extent this regulation is shared between species. We first identify defence/resistance associated gene clusters

Also the number of differentially expressed genes due to infection differs. Dispite the species sharing few genes, each species has a pretty unique response. Only aout 200 genes are shared and these also regulate defence in unrelated spp.

We performed RNAseq analyses of the 5 species during the lesion growth phase and see that each species shows very distinct patterns in terms of expressed genes

Fist we compared the genomes of our species. Each specieshs relatively few unique genes and phylostratum analyses showed that most genes are either very old or at least solanum-specific. This will help create context later.

We previously showed that the lesion doubling time of an infection differs tremendously between and within wild tomato species (spj.science.org/doi/10.34133...). Therefore, we asked how this is regulated and whether the same mechanism is involved in all plants or species.

and another 5-yr (!) postdoctoral position at GEOMAR Kiel on advancing seagrass assisted evolution, see details and link to apply www.geomar.de/en/karriere/.... Omics and pop genetics knowledge required, seagrass and coastal ecology desirable. @geomarkiel.bsky.social DM me for inquiries

Ah man. Ik ben ook een paar honderd kilometer te ver weg... Had de aankondiging te laat gezien. 😕
