It's entirely based on the emotional weight of the book. It's a hard read, and a tough introduction to the series. Some of the themes in it are particularly triggering to folks too, and for good reason, so I prefer to recommend readers ease in.

To be honest, Legacy was actually a personal favorite for me, Kindred is a close second there though.

Conviction is the second Red Lantern Graphic novel, so you'd read it right after you read The Crimson Divine : )

There are also two collections of Short Stories I would suggest reading once you're deep in the lore.
Dubiously Canon - a book of short stories that may or may not have happened, thus the name ; ) Fun, usually smutty
Brothers in Arms - a book of short stories specifically featuring Luther/Grayson

Chronological Order is as follows, but it is not the recommended reading order unless you want to dive into the deep end with a tragedy right off (some people do!) -
Legacy
Heretic
Illicit Alliance
Kindred
Off the Beaten Path
Red Lantern (Comic or Windrose)
HeartTheft

you can nominate 5 of each category, so for instance up to five novels. I nominated both HeartTheft and Brothers in Arms in the novel category - I think someone else in one of your streams said they'd done the same.

Really prone to power fantasies, too. I see this a LOT in YA fiction and shows, specifically with young male 'everyman' protagonists.

Go for it. My issue is that I think this trope holds a lot of writers back. It is both very exposing and so can be emotionally more difficult to make progress on the work, and hard to separate your ego from the text and write flawed, nuanced, relatable characters. Hard to do right, easy to do wrong.

Preach. I sign letters, I send emails, but I live in rural SC. It feels like yelling into a void.

Eh, not good, not bad. He's an herbalist and some of the medicine he offers is dangerous, especially if taken in higher doses or mixed with other intoxicants. But on the plus side, he warns his clientele. So, responsible, if nothing else.
