Looking for more web dev podcasts. Many that I used to follow feel like they've become way too drenched in AI news and trend chasing and I'm losing interest. @shoptalkshow.com is my absolute gold standard which I tune into every week but I'm craving more that scratch the same itch!

I have never been so over a winter as I am this one. Get this snow out of my sight, I just want to tend to my garden and not be cold

I've been trying so hard to make Vivaldi work as an Arc replacement but there are just too many little frustrating things I don't like. I think I'm going to have to go back and just pray that something better comes along before Arc hits EOL

Better hand detection technology has to exist for touchless faucets and hand dryers. I'm tired of having to fight to keep the sink running while my hands are still directly under it

The upgrades to `attr()` in Chrome 133 are a tiny light in dark times. www.bram.us/2025/01/20/c...

I'm really liking Dexie as an IndexedDB wrapper. I wish the typings were better and the docs were organized better, but overall it's very pleasant to work with

So awesome to see the Pistons getting positive coverage on one of my favorite sites defector.com/cade-cunning...

Our project of the day was replacing the light fixture in our bathroom. The old fixture wasn't properly mounted according to code so this also turned into learning how to install an electrical box. Very painful project, but lots of lessons learned and electrical stuff feels a little less scary now

I'm taking the plunge building my own custom RSS feed reader. Immediate reactions: - ETags are cool! - Dexie is cool! - There are more formats for RSS feeds than I realized and I need to support all of them! Less cool!

I'd highly recommend Hundreds of Beavers. Everything about the idea of a silent black and white slapstick comedy movie made in 2024 is weird but if you give it a chance it's the funniest movie I've seen in a while and I'm probably going to rewatch it.

New blog post just dropped! Microsoft decided to make our lives harder for the sake of spineless political garbage. I meant to write about this when I encountered it back in December, but got swept up in the holidays and forgot until now! geyer.dev/blog/windows...

Automated interstitial podcast ads are getting out of control. Just listened to a podcast with 3-4 poorly cut in ad breaks, each with a block of like 5 30-60 second ads back to back to back. You could probably make a podcast ad blocker with AI right? I don't know how to do that but someone should

One of the funniest things about NBA fans is no matter what team it is, fans will always latch onto some 2nd round pick who would definitely be a great player if only the team would just give them a chance to play. I am also guilty of this with Bobi Klintman, but at least I'm aware of it

Update: I got a sewing machine! Did a really rough hack job of a repair on a torn piece of clothing as practice. I absolutely love the idea of being able to repair stuff and increase its longevity. Also, sewing machines are so complex and so cool. There's so much to learn!

My phone is getting a touch old but I'm going to run it into the ground because all of the new phones feel like they have no substance beyond forcing stupid AI gimmick junk on you. Hopefully things can settle out in a year or two

A raccoon just ventured into our front yard and I've never seen our dog Harrison flip out like he did. We were told he's half-coonhound and now we certainly have proof. Kinda amazing to see his genetics kick in like that

Are there any RSS readers which allow you to maintain a remote .opml file for the feeds you're subscribed to? I just want to be able to have my feeds backed up somewhere that I control off my device and be able to share the feeds between desktop and mobile.

Scammers just got 99% of the way to draining my partner's grandma's savings account, thank goodness we were able to find out and step in to stop it. It is so stressful feeling like you're racing against the clock to stop a disaster from happening, we got very lucky

Coming to this like a year late but man, Like That is a great song

I DID IT. I don't expect anyone to use this. I don't even know if I'll end up using it myself for anything. But I wrote a custom HTML parser from scratch and it's finally polished enough that I feel comfortable publishing it. I'm very proud of this thing. github.com/Gyanreyer/te...

I've been using a serif font for my blog thinking that serifs are easier to read, but I've seen some say that only holds true for print and sans-serif is actually king when it comes to digital formats. I'm curious what others do/think. I may need to do some experiments

I'm poking around integrating #css cascade layers into our app after dreaming about it for over a year. Anyone have a favorite set of layers they like working with? My current prototype has: 1. reset 2. theme (we support custom color themes for a couple clients) 3. components 4. utility

Why is the Liangelo Ball song actually really good

LETS GOOOOOOOOOO

the buccaneers are one team i would not want to play in the postseason. i'm not in football shape, i don't have anywhere near the skill set that would be necessary, i don't belong to a team, and i would have to play them by myself. under no circumstances would i be interested in that matchup

Shout out to Red Lobster for even bothering to make gluten free cheddar bay biscuit mix. It makes great breading for fried chicken! I tried deep frying at home for the first time and my partner was finally able to eat proper gluten free fried chicken for the first time in almost a year

Someone on Reddit searched for (the non-existent) John Wick 5, and Google spared no expense to lie to them.

Just finished Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Absolutely fantastic, I'd highly recommend it. The story is like a new actually good Indiana Jones movie with some really amazing creative set pieces. I haven't played a game like this to completion in a very long time

My mom got our dog Harrison a new winter coat for Christmas and it's great. But it just *barely* doesn't fit, in a weird way where it almost fits perfectly but the velcro straps need to be a little bit longer. I've been wanting to get a sewing machine and learn to sew so this might be my time

Is the favorite library/framework for 3D rendering in the browser still three.js or has anything else come onto the scene worth checking out? I see there are a bunch of new WASM-based options out there but this project is not worth suffering through Rust for

their last funding round raised $6.6 billion in october. we can raise that much for another round if every single one of my followers contributes $30,000. come on gang! let's show the world what this community is all about

I could call my HTML parser done at this point and just walk away. And it would feel so good. Orrrrr I could make it even better but have to do a massive refactor, bringing the number of times I've majorly refactored this thing over the course of the year up to probably double digits. I can't stop

Old seasons of Drag Race are shockingly hard to pirate so we've finally broken down and gotten a Paramount+ subscription. My main takeaway so far is that Paramount owns way too much stuff. Also Drag Race rocks

It's the first day of winter and I'm already fantasizing about what I want to grow in my garden next year. I'm really excited to grow Sunchoke. It's a sunflower native to North America with really tasty edible roots. Been thinking about it since we had it at a nice restaurant a few weeks ago

One of the most interesting insights I've gotten from maintaining react-hover-video-player is that a shocking number of people decide to recreate porn sites as a beginner project for learning React. Huh.

My Steam replay is reminding me that I've barely made time for gaming this year and I have so many games I want to catch up on. Boy did I play Balatro though
