I am excited to announce that I will be a Postdoc with David Olson's Lab and the Institute of Psychedelics and Neurotherapeutics (IPN) at UC Davis later this summer! Here's a cool video of what I've been doing for the PhD

I've got a big announcement coming this week 👀

So a grants to study - patient derived iPSCs bias towards forming blood brain barrier choroid plexus and its influence on the apical-basal polarization of cerebral cells in organoids - wouldn't be considered for federal funding because it uses words Trump / white supremacists / fascists find scary?

🤘🤘

Mistakes were made... 🧪🥼🔬

NEW: Trump is going to force Americans to pay more for coffee because Colombia refused to accept his deportation flights. He announces immediate 25% tariffs on all Colombian goods, rising to 50% next week. Diplomatic bullying of a supposed ally and economic self-harm. It’s Day 6.

Investigators are still trying to determine what started the Eaton fire, which raged through Altadena, California, and killed 17 people. A new video appears to show sparking on a power line near the origin of the blaze. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/26/u...

More from inside NIH: Per a source with knowledge, for all internal research (of which there is like $10 billion worth or so), ALL purchasing shut down as of yesterday. That means gloves, reagents, anything involved with lab work, which means a lot of that work will stop.

Thou shalt accept that DEI didn't hold your career back -- you're just mid, bro.

Trump has deployed active military to help round up migrants and put them into detention camps. The military forced us out of our homes at gunpoint in 1942 because we were considered possibly disloyal Americans. They sent us to internment camps for four years. History is repeating. Pay attention.

Anyone else feeling like this for the last few days? 🎨 And yeah, that's Trump colored brainrot, and that sh*ts leaking everywhere #horror #art #painting

Scientific advancements aside, this is economically irresponsible Every $1 spent by NIH generates $2.46 For example, in 2023, $47B in NIH spending generated ~$93B Halting NIH spending will LOSE the US a lot of money (and talent)

Excited to see Moscot (moscot-tools.org) published in @Nature! We scaled Optimal Transport (OT) in single-cell genomics & added multimodality together with spatiotemporal trajectory inference, finding exciting new biology in the pancreas! 🚀 Read at www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Most folks do not understand how far in advance the planning and logistics of NIH grants take. We prepare for months or years for these submissions for one of 3 cycles per year. This study section cancellation delays grants by at least 6 months when study sections are cancelled.

Here it comes #science folks: Trump has instructed federal health agencies to pause all external communications, such as health advisories, weekly scientific reports, updates to websites and social media posts including officials at the National Institutes of Health

Winds picked up on Tuesday in southern California and at least a couple of new wildfires broke out as firefighters remained on alert two weeks after two major blazes are still burning in the LA area.

New: Trump officials have paused all external communications at health agencies like CDC, FDA, NIH. No health alerts and the famed MMWRs; no updates to key websites or social media posts. And no indication how long the pause will last. With @rachelroubein.bsky.social + Lena Sun.

So depending on what video you watch, they may have cut away when Elon did the Nazi salute... but it did happen Here is a link to NBCs video. It occurs 19sec into the video www.nbcnews.com/video/elon-m... I'm sorry to put this further out there more. But mainstream media is not talking about it

Earlier this week, an undergrad in lab asked me if I think we're in a simulation. I said, if we are, it's more likely to be a failed simulation that doesn't arrive at the high intelligence beings that are running it. Anyways... here's a paper www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Merry Christmas! This is an old experiment I'd do with my high school chemistry students I liked to call it - The Littlest Christmas Tree! 🎄 This is redox displacement reaction between a strip of copper, whose atoms are reacting with the aqueous nitrate to form dendritic growths of Cu(NO3)2 🧪🔬🥼

The building ripped from the Santa Cruz wharf has washed to shore near the river mouth. My Cal Fire friend has said that people are okay. But the Coast Guard is still in the water looking for people It sounds like this was part of the wharf that was already damaged and closed off. (Not confirmed)

Do you have a lowkey lab things that you're weirdly sentimental about? For me, it's this Styrofoam box I use for dry ice. Pulled it out of the trash 6 years ago - it's been with me through a lot. And it's coming with me when I leave

I need song / album / artist recommendations 🙏 I've got another full day on the cryostat tomorrow. I prefer full albums And I'm open to literally anything music-wise. Today, I listened to Hungatian throat singing for about an hour. Cool stuff!

You can't spell cryostat with "cry." Also, I listened through my whole playlist this week, so album recommendations are welcomed 🧪🔬🥼

"Hello, darkness my old friend..." I sing on my way back to the cryostat

Do you ever wish you could just cryostat at home?

It was very cool to be a part of this showcase! I've never shown my art outside my home - nothing like my first exhibit being at the Santa Cruz Art & History Museum 🤙 #sciart 🎨

6.5 magnitude earthquake just hit the Humboldt area. Sounds like one off the coast and another on land

Post a picture of yourself from a different era. #vanlife

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all share some food and spread some gratitude 🫶
