Might sound a bit deflating, but it’s better for a design system to be dependable than aspirational. 1. Do what you say you’re going to do. 2. Ship when you say you’re going to ship. 3. Fix things when they’re broken. 4. Support folks when they need help. Boring, but effective.

Spending this morning cleaning and focusing on something other than everything else

As grim as the news is I meet too many incredible people to believe we're permanently consigned to misery.

Awhile back, someone asserted that UX is in the business of quality. I’d say that UX should be in the business of creating trust, as in, “I trust that I’m not being scammed. I trust that this works the way I expected. I trust in the service provided, etc.”

It is taking all of my energy to do even the *simplest* of tasks, and I’m exhausted.

One of my favourite things anyone has ever said about art. You'll be missed, David. 🌹

Solved an issue on my framer website and it took like 3 hours but the relief I feel is unmatched haha.

Man, not David Lynch too.

RIP to a master. #filmsky 📽

Not sure there's ever been an artist I had a bigger turn around on in my life. Couldn't understand or enjoy any of his stuff when I was younger, but grew into a full on evangelist as I got older and learned how to absorb what he was putting into the world. Truly no one else quite like him. RIP.

"Just a bit outside." Bob Uecker, RIP. He will always be a legend. wacotrib.com/sports/profe...

A lot of times you have start with what good (or even bad) looks like to start the conversation. Once you start there, then you have a starting point. Then the real design begins. #ux #pm

I can’t believe it’s been over 10 years and Spotify still doesn’t understand that when I make a playlist and click shuffle, I only want to her those songs. I can always tell when they slide random songs in and it still pisses me off. There’s got to be a toggle somewhere.

Things are clicking into place finally. Little bit of a learning curve rapidly learning Framer but it’s been so much fun. Such a cool platform to design on.

I love design systems, but phew, design tokens used to *really* intimidate me. They vary by team and get complex fast! But after two years of working closely with engineers, I now see them as one of the best tools we have for bridging the gap between design & code and bringing teams together. 🎨🧑‍💻

At 35, getting ready for bed is a promise not a suggestion.

Titanfall 2 is literally $2 on PSN right now. I don’t care how much you think you don’t like shooters, I promise this one is worth $2

Nothing like a snowstorm to keep you occupied. Getting an ultra-wide monitor has been amazing for my chaotic multitasking haha

Working freelance and in full time, I’m able to keep such a focus on the task at hand and get shit done. With my own portfolio site, it’s in fits and starts of creativity like I was back in the long ago times and it’s such a strange feeling to externalize who I am at 35 vs the early years.

Doesn’t matter how old I get, making my portfolio site is still a nightmare to conceptualize.

Please note: 1) This number is legit. 2) It is run by trans and nonbinary folks. 3) They do not call police. Please live.

Anyone else find a great solution randomly for a design they made over 6 years ago?

Picked my iPad Pro back up and started working on some more art for my portfolio site. Figured it’s about time my art and design worlds combined for a little bit.

I know this is probably years late, but getting back into web design and I’m absolutely blown away by what Framer and Webflow are doing right now. We’ve come such a long way from the Wordpress days when I started in 2012 and it’s just so much fun to use them.

This is me scrolling LinkedIn: Cringe Captain Obvious Who cares Cringe Ad masked as Cringe UX is dead Product is dead Something AI Layoff news Something about empathy Buy my book Subscribe to be smart like me, even if I don’t have to work in a massive bureaucracy *Friend landed a job. Great!

Man, I haven’t had this much creative inspiration in a long fricking time. It feels like getting a huge dose of adrenaline after being in a corporate coma for a few years.

The problems that are most fun for me is the kind of problem where engineering has some early working hypothesis about the emergent tech possibilities and business sees a possible application, but no one knows how to approach the problem. No one knows what the roadmap is or possible value yet.

I was looking for some website inspiration and this one had a horizontal scroll of portfolio work set to auto scroll fast and I nearly threw up. Not sure if I’m getting old but I’ve never had a website do that. Crazy stuff.

A lot of product and design work is a thousand minutiae decisions, and why this not that. So if you’ve done this for years and years and years, you already have all those rationales in your head.

Users don't want a transformative experience. They just want tasks to be easier. #ux

I post a lot in defense of Design & UX bc I’ve been on the Product side and have seen some good PMs & a lot of terrible ones. I’ve seen designers having to be backseat PMs. What I see at Zillow made me realize that strong Design leadership can really make Design powerful. Our CDO is really amazing.

Greg Olsen is a nerd PSYOP on these Fox broadcasts. Just sneaking in commentary about how being up 6 is secretly worse than being up 3 late in the game. And the Vikings immediately show us why.

I was abandoned as a child, for those that dont know. I am working through it with art lately. First discovery: I deserved unconditional love and acceptance. Made using pencil, ink, acrylic marker, watercolor marker. #adoptiontrauma #artists #mystory
