Point being: If you have a mountain of setting notes but you don't know who the audience is going to follow and what their struggle is going to be, you don't really have a potential book, you have a D&D campaign planning document. Tell me why I should care, first and foremost.

That level of obsession is inspired, fundamentally, by a story that demands further and further engagement, by people who want more and more and end up fretting over every little detail. The worldbuilding was never the draw, and audiences fixating on it is usually a consequence of liking the story.

So if you're wonder how to write something boundary-breaking or heaven forfend, viscerally queer? Something with actual teeth, guts, a spine to be ripped out and consumed? Write ... characters who aren't afraid to act on desire. They can start out that way, but developing into an agent is cool!
