USDOT Secretary Sean Duffy went on CBS News earlier this week to explain why he's trying to cancel congestion pricing in New York City. So we had beloved congestion pricing expert @davecolon.bsky.social explain why Sec. Duffy has no idea what he's talking about. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax_o...

"Pro life" folks at work

AOC has come up with some really great observations lately. This is one of them.

The United States appears to be in violation of the Budapest Memorandum which disarmed Ukraine of nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees. The agreement signed by the US in 1994 specifically prohibits economic coercion against Ukraine.

According to Russian channels, Ukrainian UAVs knocked out power and halted operations at the Novovelichkovskaya oil pumping station in Russia’s Krasnodar region. The strike on Feb 20 disrupted a key hub for oil transport in Kuban, affecting supplies to the Afipsky and Ilsky refineries.

How can Brexit Britain navigate Trump's World? New post on my Brexit & Beyond Blog. With the rapid deepening of a dangerous global divide, the UK faces hard choices. Could the latest proposals for UK-EU 'mutual recognition' be part of the answer? chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2025/02/how-...

Drones from the Ukrainian Security Service successfully disabled the "Novovelychkovskaya" oil pumping station in Kuban, a critical facility for oil transportation in the region. The drone strike specifically targeted the 110/35/10 kV substation that supplies power to the pumping station.

Seems that there might be a worthwhile opportunity to discuss the #defense strategies of small countries next to predatory, imperialist neighbors. We have quite different war aims and therefore also requirements compared to the militaries of the Great Powers. bsky.app/profile/jmko...

We can agree that it's shameful if it comes to fruition. I dont think there is any chance it does. I don't understand why people don't believe Zelensky is as good a negotiator as Mexico or Canada. He knows you give Trump the PR win and move on

General Brown is a brilliant, amazing leader. I worked at the Air Staff for three years and it was known that he read everything the staff wrote for him. He believes if an analyst took the time to write it, it’s his responsibility to read it. Very few generals do this.

The US national security adviser reminded us yesterday that Zelenskyy's "victory plan" last year included an offer of a deal on minerals. It did, but not just to the US. www.politico.eu/article/volo... #r4today

It looks as if the woman who put the Musk-doing-a-Nazi-Salute cut-out in an English TESLA showroom has also created a donation tool that automatically triggers contributions to progressive causes whenever Musk posts content on X bylinetimes.com/2025/02/21/d...

Musk, insider threat extraordinaire Stealer of all the things, saboteur of security and intelligence Worth a read ... 🎁 article

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

Meanwhile in Russia: state TV experts discussed Trump's strategy towards Ukraine and the rest of Europe, and rejoiced about media coverage that depicts the American president as Putin's poodle. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWbt...

Russia is our belligerent neighbor and has more than $75 trillion in natural resources, most of which are in the far east occupied lands right next to the US. We can pay off the entirety of our national debt by taking over Russia. Plus - we can liberate Russians from fascism.

In a small trial, nearly half of pancreatic cancer patients who received an mRNA vaccine had no signs of relapse after three years. Dr. Vinod Balachandran from @mskcancercenter.bsky.social joins us to discuss the results and what they could mean for cancer treatment.

I’d like to think I’m the first person to get into a flame war with VPOTUS from the swimming pool of Woburn Center Parcs at half-term.

The Trump regime is trying to pressure Zelenskyy to leave Ukraine and force him into exile in France, this is part of an ongoing US / Russia ploy to force a surrender and plunder the country's resources. #StandWithUkraine

NEW PIECE: On the shorter side for my recent writings, I take a chance to step back and return to the big picture. Why should we care if the Trump administration, and Musk's DOGE, are acting unconstitutionally? The answer is not as simple as it might seem. www.crisesnotes.com/why-should-w...

In which Trump and cronies discover that just nobbling the prosecution may sometimes not be enough to fix the outcome of a criminal case.

To explain: Judge Ho has said, "I'm canceling the trial for now, eliminating one thing DOJ was complaining about, and instead I've asked a super conservative judge who can argue this to SCOTUS successfully to argue against the govt for me." Brilliant move.

If Trump wants to see elections in Ukraine, all he has to do is use the power he keeps talking about to get the Russian invaders off Ukrainian soil. Then martial law in Ukraine ends, and elections will follow.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk have fired “multiple FAA lawyers whose job was to help prevent pilots with drug and alcohol problems from getting in the cockpit.” Musk and Trump want you to die in an airplane crash. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

We should understand Trump’s approach to Ukraine as one piece of a larger picture in which the US is aligning itself more fully with the global forces of ethnonationalism, authoritarianism and oligarchy. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Convict Girkin in his famous manner comments on the recent US - Russia talks and sees no progress, doubting that Trump will give Russia anything, but may use Ukraine to pressure Moscow.

Superb from Private Eye

1. European and UK ministers are still talking as if their biggest potential security problem is a withdrawal of US support. But that is not their biggest potential security problem. It’s that, under Trump, the US will back Putin not just diplomatically but also militarily. 🧵

Here's an action to take today: If you're in TX or LA, call Ted Cruz or Bill Cassidy and ask them why they're letting Trump piss away America's competitive advantage w/o lifting a finger. Mention this article. Cruz (Chair of Commerce): (202) 224-5922 Cassidy (Chair of HELP): (202) 224-5824

For decades, the US government has painstakingly kept American science #1 globally—and every facet of American life has improved because of it. The internet? Flu shot? Ozempic? All grew out of federally-funded research. Now all that's being dismantled. 1/ www.technologyreview.com/2025/02/21/1...

Great letter. But Musk tries to weaponise the concept of generational trauma AGAINST Elias. Yet it is he (Musk) that is displaying the characteristics of a very damaged human being. Elias has turned trauma to the good.

There is a new broken submarine cable close to Gotland, with Swedish Navy and Coast Guard en route, according to public service news. Will try and get more info in a while.

The US government is executing their favoured strategy also internationally: wreck the ability to measure the world and to build knowledge, and you can stop progress toward solving global problems like climate change. All to support their wealthy backers. Irresponsible... A rogue state.

There is obviously a higher moral case to be made, but on a purely rational level it is unarguable in light of recent events, i.e. a hostile nuclear neighbour and your current nuclear umbrella looking much less reliable.

As someone who loves to hate on both self driving cars & the push for personal protection for cyclists and pedestrians instead of building safe infrastructure, this news is so validating

Ed Davey comments on Starmer talking to Trump #r4today Acknowledges the difficulty of his position but stresses the need to be firmly honest and to protect our interests. Managing to be both supportive *and* oppositional. A very welcome change from the twatty point-scoring we get from the Tories.

Devastating to watch fragile trust in the safety of things like “working for the government will be ok for my family” or “it’s ok to do research that will help people” just be absolutely shattered by these evil clowns

This is short-sighted, I think. Where are the F-16s most needed at the moment? Will deploying them in Ukraine help Belgium in the long run? Is there really a big risk that Belgium will need them to defend itself over the coming year? In the worst case scenario, can't it rely on its allies?

Lie after lie has been told this week about how the Ukraine war started, from the Kremlin and the White House. Here's our News Agents video essay which explains the truth, and spells out why Trump clings so close to Putin and lives in his warped reality. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cufM...

This is exactly how Hitler talked. It's not even a comparison or analogy, as people claim. It's a direct connection in ideology as well as a similar approach to governance and relationship to democracy. This needs to be how we talk about it. They are the ideological descendants of Hitler.

WSJ alleges Musk is leveraging his gov't position to extort ad revenue. “The easiest route is to spend a minimum viable amount on the platform. Not because they want to advertise there, but because they are afraid of legal and political ramifications of not doing so.” ~AA www.wsj.com/business/med...
