Every time I read a story about a small rural town and all the struggles they face, it just reads like a description of things those people have voted for. Some places in the US vote only for Republicans for five decades, and then I'm supposed to feel bad that their town is impoverished? F-IN DUH.

This is exactly who came to mind as I was reading this. It would also be an absolute net loss for cinema without the likes of Clint Eastwood in a directorial/visionary role, chair monologues aside.

Some people *should* be alienated. I think those of us who value rational thought and good-faith discourse are reluctant to engage in that notion - but not everyone is a good actor. Some actors are there only to dismantle and muddy, and if they feel shunned... good.
