My thoughts with everyone traumatised by this horrific crash and especially with the family and friends of the woman who has sadly died. Yet another example of why we need a step change in action on Vision Zero, designing out systemic danger on roads as we do on rail. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I believe that children are the future etc. They suggest actions that benefit all of us. - Better neighbourhoods - Improved public health - Fewer road deaths - More fun

“Road safety is a crisis that has gone on far too long. No road deaths are necessary or acceptable. Yet it is also much more than that. Safe and sustainable mobility can power a better future for us all.” www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

Reece McKinven reversed over an 83-year old great grandmother FOUR times, killing her. He had no licence, no insurance, Cannabis in his system and a history of driving offences. He received a 13 month sentence and a 2.5 year driving ban. The system is not working. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Driver of this Ford Mondeo who close passed me last year opted for a court appearance, he received 4 points, a fine and court costs. He should have accepted an Educational Course like the Mitsubishi Barbarian driver in front of him! youtu.be/djQICsVCIPk?...

A Notice of Intended Prosecution heading to this VW driver who did don't pass a cyclist leaving at least 1.5m of space when passing.

North Yorkshire Police taking action against this VW driver would impatiently pushes past a cyclist on a narrow lane.

Should cycling be part of the driving test? Coach company sends its drivers on Road User Awareness Training to gain "first-hand awareness of at-risk road users and guidance on how to drive more safely around people cycling" road.cc/311703

If the roads cannot be made safe for cyclists then all efforts to encourage cycling will fail. Improving driver behaviour is central to this because infra cannot cover the entire roads network. Enforcing the law on driving around vulnerable road users is central to bringing about this change.

This Uber driver has been reported to the police for a careless close pass in #Embsay near #Skiptin

Let's focus on eyesight! Are drivers fit to drive? We *must* tighten up the rules and enforce compliance for an obvious way to reduce avoidable death and injury on the roads. @actionvz.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

11 careless passes reported to the police today including this Peugeot driver near #Steeton who had plenty of space but passed us leaving less than a metre.

Protected cycle tracks allow primary school children to safely cycle back home together and wave goodbye from the bike

In response to close pass reports, South Yorkshire Police are now sending this as a response (see Alt Text for easier read version). Is this acceptable/correct? @timon2wheels.bsky.social @cinsp-ksmith.bsky.social @bikery.bsky.social @saferroadsyorks.bsky.social

If you see cyclists riding "in the middle of the road!!" (usually actually the middle of the lane but sometimes the middle of the road if it's narrow) where there is on-street parking, this is probably why. They're managing both moving and stationary vehicles, either of which could easily kill them.

No doubt just a warning letter from North Yorkshire Police for this close careless pass. Sends a clear message that this is a trivial offence despite risking people's lives.

A police Notice of Intended Prosecution heading for the VW driver who close passes a cyclist on approach to a crossing in a traffic calmed section.

Presumed liability is a system that shifts the burden of proof to the insurance company in a collision, and is intended to compensate vulnerable road users more quickly and effectively. Petition Introduce presumed liability for road traffic collisions. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

On a bike, you’re not hidden behind metal and glass, you’re a part of the world around you. This visibility fosters human connection, whether through a nod, a glance, or just being seen. It’s a reminder of shared spaces and shared humanity.

Read The Telegraph or Daily Mail to find out.

Close pass a cyclist in W Yorkshire like this Peugeot driver did and you’ll pay £100 for a course or receive 3 points and a fine. You could opt for a court appearance but it will likely cost you more points, money and time.
