Paramount Offered Trump $15 Million to settle. Trump wants $20 Billion. @samsteindc.bsky.social and @saletan.bsky.social react to Trump's multi-billion dollar tantrum:

I've got a lot of feelings after the Chicago show last night. But the biggest is this: Community before strategy. LFG. www.thebulwark.com/p/community-...

NEW: Yes, strategy matters in defeating Trumpism. But first, find your community. (This starts with a few heartfelt words of thanks for our Bulwark community. ❤️) www.thebulwark.com/p/community-...

“When Donald Trump tried to stay in power after losing the 2020 presidential election, he lacked one crucial asset: the military. The armed forces stayed out of the fight, putting loyalty to the Constitution above loyalty to the president.” – @saletan.bsky.social www.thebulwark.com/p/corrupter-...

When Trump tried to stay in power after losing in 2020, the military stayed out of the fight. He won’t make that mistake again. He’s purging generals, installing loyalists, and “encouraging rank-and-file service members to side with him against anyone who stands in his way, including the courts.”

I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and tell everybody I'm protecting Putin, and I wouldn't lose any voters. truthsocial.com/@realDonaldT...

By now it should be clear that the Trump administration intends to use the power of the state to crush every institution that stands in its way. There is no refuge in compliance. There will only be more demands, threats, and targets. We can sit and watch it happen. Or we can unite against it.

"They're going to teach remedial math at Harvard," says Trump in disgust, after denying his tariffs will raise prices. "How can somebody that can't add...how do they get into Harvard?" Next question: How did a man who can't distinguish a trade deficit from a financial loss get into the Oval Office?

"European officials have approached negotiations as though they are reasoning with an ally." Instead, Trump's team is pressing for "one-way offers" and has "implied this is not a give and take. It is just a take." This was Zelensky's mistake. Stop pretending the US under Trump is an ally. It's not.

The United States of America, formerly a world leader, is now represented by a buffoon who pesters visiting dignitaries with nonsense he picked up from his social-media echo chamber. There is no vetting. There is only relentless national embarrassment. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/23/u...

A concise summary of Trump’s destruction of the United States.

You’re not gonna believe this, but it turns out that in commerce, “strategic unpredictability” isn’t very strategic. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/05...

Trump suggested that Springsteen committed treason but only revealed the ugly truth about himself This is a must watch from @saletan.bsky.social

We're just at the very beginning of unraveling Trump's falsehoods about anti-white "genocide" in South Africa. He lives in a bubble of white grievance propaganda. It's a sad illustration of how echo chambers work — and how underlying prejudice manifests itself in the world's most powerful office.

"Kennedy’s FDA is not merely removing the recommendation for the COVID booster and letting people make their own decisions," writes @jvl.bsky.social. "They are affirmatively restricting access to it." "They don’t want people to 'do their own research' ... Kennedy and MAGA want control."

"Six years ago, I found myself face to face with a white farmer preparing for the government to take his land." "This did not happen in South Africa. It was in South Texas, and it was because of Trump." A pointed illustration of Trump's single-minded focus on the idea of black-on-white persecution

"Trump went to the Persian Gulf, sucked up to the autocrats for money, trashed America, and renounced American values. And now he’s trying to gut our country and turn it into a monarchy, just like those other countries." Springsteen was right about him. My video on the president's latest betrayal.

If you're one of the two million black Americans who voted for Trump — or if you simply care whether our president is a racist — I encourage you to watch this video, starting at 18:45. It shows that he's singularly focused on white victimhood and won't accept evidence that corrects his falsehoods.

Gabbard’s top aide, ordering changes to an intel assessment that debunked one of Trump’s lies: “We need to do some rewriting … so this document is not used against the DNI or POTUS.” Politicizing intelligence is just another one of the many corrupt acts Trump falsely alleged and is now committing.

Biden “helped guide the country out of [the] pandemic,” writes @eggerdc.bsky.social. He “presided over boring-but-useful legislation like the infrastructure bill and the CHIPS Act.” He "preached faith in the American experiment." This version of his story “may yet be the one history will remember.”

"Instead of being given... trust from the conspiracists, Bongino is now being treated as a 'deep state traitor' for telling them that the wild theories he used to preach... aren’t true." @willsommer.bsky.social on conspiracy-theory arsonists who are trying—and failing—to put out fires they started.

New podcast: Will @saletan.bsky.social talks with me about Trump’s moral collapse, Ashli Babbitt's $5 million settlement, Joe Biden's age scandal (worse than Trump's lies?), & much, MUCH more! youtu.be/vsxdjBLEr9I?...

How Donald Trump demeaned our country and its values in his tour of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE. This is a must read from @saletan.bsky.social

While refusing to criticize the Gulf monarchies, Trump "depicted America as a phony democracy. In Saudi Arabia, he blamed his defeat on ‘a rigged election.’ In Qatar, he insisted again that ‘the election was rigged.’" “His whole trip... was about badmouthing America and renouncing American values.”

Trump tonight, addressing his Kennedy Center board: “Our new board has...brought back family-friendly programming." 3 minutes later, he says Democrats "rigged the election" in 2020, so he decided "I’ll run again, and I’ll shove it up their ass." The board applauds. These people believe in nothing.

You’ll never guess why the post in the middle has no exclamation points and no gratuitous capital letters.

“I resigned … because the policy since the beginning of the administration was to put pressure on the victim, Ukraine, rather than on the aggressor, Russia,” says Trump’s former ambassador to Ukraine. “Peace at any price is not peace … As we know from history, appeasement only leads to more war.”

At Smith College commencement weekend. Thank God *someone* is standing up for the Afrikaners.

Keep an eye on this. If the current U.S. government continues on its authoritarian trajectory, one of its early targets will be @jamescomey.bsky.social, the former FBI director who exposed Trump’s corrupt attempts to bury the investigation of the Trump administration’s contacts with Russia.

Come celebrate Pride at the Lincoln Theater in DC where World Pride, @thebulwark.com, and @crooked.com are teaming up for a big, beautiful, extremely gay live show. We'll laugh, cry, and scream about, you know, everything.

Rep. Jason Smith: "And then you can look at Medicaid cuts -- Medicaid reforms, I should say." Oops.

Astute point from @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social: Everything Trump does—taking bribes, weaponizing DOJ, cutting personal deals with foreign leaders, extorting universities and law firms—is out in the open, so people see his power and kneel to it. "And people like Mike Johnson call it a virtue."

Do you know someone who voted for Trump because they thought he'd be good at managing the economy? Send them a link to this video. It shows him repeatedly refusing to acknowledge or comprehend the damage he's doing to American workers and consumers. He simply doesn't get it.

Trump constantly lies about private conversations with foreign leaders. For example, that he talked Putin out of invading Ukraine. He just makes it up. Rarely does the foreign government call him on the lie. This time, India did: “The issue of trade did not come up in any of these discussions.”

I'm in @thebulwark.com with a review of @yappelbaum.bsky.social's "Stuck." I liked the book a lot - my main point of critique is simply wondering whether we have it in us culturally to restore the high-mobility, opportunity-seeking era Appelbaum describes: www.thebulwark.com/p/can-americ...

The human capacity for rationalization is a marvel.

I came, I sawed, I conquered. MBS, the orchestrator of Khashoggi's murder, has won the admiration of America's president. "In the era of Trump and Putin and Xi and bin Salman... autocracy, plutocracy, and kleptocracy are the way of the world." @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social on Trump's Saudi trip.

"Foreign dignitaries, lobbyists, and others poured millions of dollars directly into [Trump's] pockets by frequenting his ... hotels," writes @cheetah.bsky.social. "But a $400 million luxury airliner that Trump [can] keep upon leaving office... takes the administration’s corruption to 36,000 feet."

Republicans are doing to Medicaid and the ACA what they're doing to voting: In the name of cracking down on "fraud," their plan will drive lots of eligible people off the rolls. How many? @citizencohn.bsky.social breaks it down. About 10 million will become uninsured. And that's just the beginning.

A breakdown of Trump's constant, brazen lying about prices New video from @saletan.bsky.social www.thebulwark.com/p/trumps-lie...

"Members of Congress in the president's party... have more to fear from the president of the United States than the people of the United States." A stark summary of our authoritarian crisis, by @petebuttigieg.bsky.social tonight. Our task, he says, is "to change the math, to change the incentive."

Trump says the polls are fake. He claims his real approval rating is 20 points higher. A reporter warns Trump that his tariffs are strangling imports and threatening American jobs. Trump replies: "That means we lose less money ... That's a good thing." My video breakdown of his economic delusions.
