Pushing Haizaki away doesn't mean Kidou doesn't care about him, on the contrary. Besides the fact that there are numerous scenes that prove the opposite, sometimes the highest form of affection you can feel for someone is to let them go.

Asuto did it too, but he was too pushy. Kidou instead told him that he didn't care why he played soccer or what drove him, he would help him anyway. Haizaki has always been a problem for everyone to solve, but not for Kidou.

For his part, Haizaki cares a lot about Kidou, as can also be seen from his reaction to Ichihoshi getting Kidou framed. I think it's because Kidou was the first to try to understand him and not tame him.

Even though the 'light' is Asuto, Haizaki himself calls Kidou a 'blinding light' in Orion. If it weren't for him, Haizaki would still be at square one.

This is an interesting aspect of Kidou, which probably stems from the awareness he acquired after leaving Teikoku Gakuen that he does not want to take credit for things he does not deserve, even though in this case he has the same if not more credit than Asuto.

Kidou not wanting to take credit for helping Haizaki is very consistent with his character in my opinion. He did the same with Haruna in season 2, when she told him that he was the only person who helped her cope with their parents' death. Always take the blame, never the credit.

In Ares, Kidou says that he wanted to help Haizaki because he reminded him of himself before he joined Raimon, and that if Endou had an effect on him, then Asuto would work on Haizaki, and he was right.

Some might think that Kidou wasn't in the right mental state to mentor Haizaki, and that's exactly the point: knowing he couldn't help him, he pushed him towards the one who actually could, namely Asuto.
