The red campion are looking particularly beautiful this year 😍 #bloomscrolling #hedgerowplants #weedsnotweeds

Now *that's* what I call a borrowed landscape 😍 Burrow Farm Gardens, East Devon #gardening #design 🌱

Breakfast with an eight month old border collie in the house.... and this is *after* her morning walk... πŸ˜‚ #dogsofbluesky

🐞🌱| Senedd Biodiversity Day 2025! Come along to meet organisations from across Wales working hard to protect our natural habitats and wildlife. The event is open to the public and everyone is welcome! πŸ“… Tuesday 7th May ⏰ 11:00 - 14:00 πŸ“ Senedd Cymru, Cardiff Bay

Loving my unmown #lawn 😊 I could be looking at a plain green, close-shorn, tidy but oh so boring patch of green carpet. Instead I have a spangled prettiness of dandelions, self-heal, daisies and speedwell, set off beautifully by the soft green grass and buzzing with life πŸπŸ¦‹πŸ¦— #nomowmay 🌱 #gardening

Welwn ni chi yn y Senedd... Cadwch lygad yr wythnos yma am ein lluniau a'n fideos ni o'r digwyddiad! πŸŒ±πŸ“’ #RhoiTerfynArWerthuMawn See you at the Senedd... Keep an eye out for our photos and videos from the event! πŸŒ±πŸ“’ #EndPeatSales @carolynthomasms.bsky.social

The most amazing visit yesterday to Shapwick Heath on the #Somerset Levels, site of the area's first #peat restoration project. Once drained & mined for #horticulture - now bunds hold water in place & rewetting well under way with sphagnum, cottongrass & carnivorous sundews returning πŸ’š #endpeatsales

This season's must-have garden ornament 😊 🌱 #gardening #dogsofbluesky

So stoked for this... I'm the one first in the queue come October 😍 #hisdarkmaterials #superfan

Sometimes a plant combination just works 😍 Tulipa saxatilis shining out against a backdrop of purple leaved sage in my garden right now πŸ’œ I have a weakness for species tulips - so much easier than their flouncier cousins, you just plant 'n' go for years of exquisitely delicate flowers 🌱 #gardening

This is such a good article. I'm running a clothing swap shop in June for the Great Big Green Week with exactly this theme in mind - local schoolchildren also doing a display on the environmental impact of fast #fashion, should be fun + thought provoking 😊 I'm a Vinted/charity shop girl myself πŸ’‹

Our #PeatExtraction counter has surpassed 300,000 m3. This is an estimate, but the reality is that diggers are out right now shifting vast amounts of peat for #Gardening and #Horticulture. We know how devastating this is - legislation is the only way forward. #EndPeatSales #Nature #Climate

We have to talk about #Horticulture business when discussing legislation to #EndPeatSales πŸ“’ Progress will stall without it. Businesses want to plan for the future, not be dragged along by shifting deadlines. Start a conversation with your MP: peatfreepartnership.org.uk/get-involved #Gardening

Bit late getting the spuds in #oops - but they'll be fine, I reckon you can plant till mid-May these days 😊 this is how you do it #nodig - nestle seed potatoes into the mulch & tip more mulch on top. As they grow "earth up" with lawn clippings, straw, compost, whatever is to hand 🌱 #easy #gardening

Uh oh... noticed my pear tree was looking oddly flowery, looked closer and... these are not pear flowers but quince 😳 v pretty but this is the Quince A rootstock trying to take over from the pear scion. Rats. Will leave flowers for bees (and me 😊) to enjoy then prune out in summer #oops 🌱 #gardening

What a good dandelion spring! Super rich source of nectar for bees and butterflies πŸπŸ¦‹πŸž plus completely edible: put a plate upside down on young crowns for a couple of weeks to blanch out bitterness then pick for salad leaves, or make a mildly diuretic tea from the flowers 🌼 🌱 #gardening #wildflowers

You plant a garden for yourself: but you plant a tree for your grandkids. I planted this cherry tree with my youngest when she was still at primary school. She's grown up & gone now but the cherry is the best thing in my garden & takes me right back to that long-ago morning πŸ’šπŸŒ± #gardening #memories

April peatland news stories for your weekend, a thread 🧡 πŸ₯΅ BBC South West covers a study from earlier this year predicting how peatlands would change under different climate change models www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... #BBC #Peatlands #ClimateChange

I sowed red-veined sorrel once, about 15 years ago, & now it pops up all over πŸ’š looks v pretty but never knew what to do with it - turns out I have a Yotam Ottolenghi ingredient on my hands πŸ˜… pesto, vinaigrette, omelette pizazz... yum πŸ˜‹ #foreverfood #gardening www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle....

Past, present, and future - #Peatlands have been with us the whole time. Our new #blog discusses what peatlands mean to the people restoring them, featuring the Peatlands Team from @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social peatfreepartnership.org.uk/2025/04/what... #PeatFree #Conservation #History #Nature

Now, why would you pick bilious green nylon pea netting when you can have lovely natural #plasticfree jute instead? Lasts a few years if you look after it and looks just gorgeous πŸ’š also not too expensive, totally biodegradable and kind to the planet #sustainable #gardening 🌱

Huge news - #peatland restoration is actively helping prevent wildfire damage! This outcome is so inspiring and proves how peatlands can face up to #ClimateChange if properly protected and restored😊 Going #PeatFree and legislating to #EndPeatSales is the way forward for more of this ⬇️ #Gardening

Late daffs still going strong in the front garden - these are an old heritage variety, I think Albatross which dates back to the 19th century. Choose your varieties carefully and the daffodil season can last from January to May πŸ’› #stillspring #bloomscrolling 🌱 #gardening

Chard doing its thing πŸ’š this is self-sown, I haven't sown chard from scratch in years - just let one or two flower every year and you have free spinach for life 😁 🌱 #gardening #gyo #freefood

Chickens!!!! πŸ“πŸ“πŸ“ and ducks πŸ¦†πŸ¦†πŸ¦† + turkeys and one slightly lonely pigeon πŸ•Š i love a #poultry auction and they're rare these days due to #birdflu restrictions. This one had special permission & all stock from one vendor. Bit pricey tho - the very gorgeous Buff Orpington trio in the pic fetched Β£180 😱

Proud to be part of The Underground's special ep on the need to get #peat out of #gardening 🌱 Good balanced look at why #gardening must move to a #peatfree future + challenges (not least uncertainty due to silence over legislation frm govt @marycreagh.bsky.social) theunderground.fm/podcast/why-...

I looked up a recipe for hot cross buns yesterday in a fit of enthusiasm thinking I could greet my daughters with home-made, still-warm hot cross buns as they arrive this Easter. After reading about the third hour of proving I realised this will always be something other people do #imperfectmum

The other week I was asking for peat free pelargonium suppliers and of course I should have guessed, Norfolk Herbs is www.norfolkherbs.co.uk/plants/scent...

Apple trees absolutely laden with blossom this year 😍 combination of a good spring following a cold winter - it didn’t snow here but was v chilly for weeks, clearly just enough days below 7Β°C (45Β°F) for apples, strawberries & blackcurrants (plus garlic πŸ§„) to set for a fruity summer πŸŽπŸ“πŸ’πŸŒ± #gardening

We need this now @marycreagh.bsky.social the delay to the ban is harming businesses that have already switched and damaging the horticulture industry’s future

True English bluebell, Hyacinthoides non-scripta, on the left; bog standard Spanish (upright, pale blue, thick leaves): then a hybrid of the two. Hybrids are most common & cause confusion over identification: if it ain't dark blue, dangly and arching it ain't a true native 🌱 #wildflowers #gardening
