Foul balls are not hit BY the bat, they're hit WITH the bat, by the ballplayer. Reporting that Bob hit a foul is not an accusation that Bob is deliberately throwing the game. This is a #DriverNotCar tweet for reporters.

Ha. "Dogebaggers" It'll be important to keep track of who those people are, and to deny them employment and membership in civil society going forward (absent public and personally costly acts of contrition).

Coming around to the view that a certain kind of narcissist simply needs Musk to be a genius rather than a fraud, because they want to believe there’s a hereditary Brahmin class of accomplished, beautiful minds—and that they’re a part of that class.

Anyone else feeling jittery and kinda helpless?

Only slightly amazed at how many people on this site keep telling me the answer to our current situation is to *give more power to the federal government to silence "disinformation."* Look at who you'd be empowering. Look at what they call disinfo and "fake news."

It is a twisted combination of funny and frustrating that every Nazi dog whistle they did over the past decade plus, yes, including that OK symbol thing, got downplayed into oblivion by many of the people who feel like they are just all of the sudden heiling out of nowhere.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

And I am an ally. If you are too, let the world know.

It's National Margarita Day I'm starting off with a basic margarita* 2 oz blanco tequila 1 oz lime juice 3/4 oz orange liqueur 1/2 oz simple syrup *I believe technically, it should use agave syrup, not simple syrup, but I don't have any, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A racist, misogynistic purge of Americans who served their country at the highest levels… Led by drunkard white supremacist who failed out of the National Guard

“If I, personally, don’t know or understand what they do, then it can’t possibly be important; or it’s some sort of scam” is an attitude I’m seeing more and more from people who are ill-informed

In preparation to celebrate National Margarita Day (today, February 22), I made enchilada sauce for some crockpot enchilada casserole. It should make the house smell great all day as it cooks 😋

A good way to start Saturday morning ☺️

This afternoon's #cocktail is an early favorite of mine: the Aviation 2 oz gin 3/4 oz lemon juice 1/2 oz maraschino liqueur 1/4 oz crème de violette 1/4 oz simple syrup https://hachyderm.io/@SamUpstate/114044114151897510

ErinReed [Feb 20] -- Despite ferocious govt assault the US is queerer than ever. Gallup finds nearly 1-in-ten adults are LGBTQ+ (9.3%), nearly double 2020. Trans is up 50% to 1.3% in just 2 yrs from 0.9% in 2023. And among Gen Z, nearly 1-in-4 (23%) are LGBTQ+! [@rikiwilchins.bsky.social‬]

I know we talk about this constantly but it is truly one of the greatest mindfucks of my lifetime. as an 80s kid a Nazi was the most unambiguously, nonnegotiably evil thing you could even be ADJACENT TO, like morality for kindergarteners, and now we have to relitigate that shit every day???? ffs

By the way, this is one of the issues where you might be able to make some headway with GOP reps if you live in a rural district. It has always been the heavily red rural districts that stopped them from destroying USPS in the past. Reps know their constituents depend on USPS.

Not sure what more could be needed than "the Mayor indicted for corruption has entered into a quid pro quo to change his policies in exchange for dropping the charges, a indisputable fact made clear in writing by multiple DOJ officials and confirmed in TV interviews with the Mayor."

It bears an eerie similarity to the work slowdown by police forces across the country since the Derek Chauvin conviction.

I mean, given that Putin had a hand in electing and propping up Trump, Tillis isn't wrong. He just doesn't see his own complicity in it—how his own moral and intellectual vacuity makes him easy prey for those who hate what is good and right.

Anyone else been hearing a lot about "We just need better messaging!" "We just need a left Joe Rogan!" lately? About that. There's one reason the right has more social media than the left, with bigger audiences. Right-wingers pay their creators. End of list.

Between stuff like this and planes colliding and flipping over, I can't imagine why anyone would voluntarily get on an airplane, let alone pay to do it.

Good Lord! The national Democratic Party is awful at communication in the digital age. I've been reporting junk texts coming from them all night. It makes me want to never donate to another candidate ever again. And I'm a district leader for the local party.

Democrats can’t sustain this kind of rhetoric without action. At the federal level they need to hold a 24-7 vigil at the Capitol until the coup ends. At the state level they could seize federal assets until court orders are being followed. We’re already outside the regular constitutional order.

I am part of the 25%. The lifestyle change is worth it. This is the way…

While I'm at it and it's early, I'll also say that FAFO discourse doesn't feel good to me at all. I think that the people who will find out the most are the same people who are always finding out: the most marginalized. I also think that it destroys potential solidarity and solidarity is needed now.

When there's a fight the guy who actually fights tends to have an advantage.

JD Vance is so nauseatingly unlikeable that he’s literally dragging down the AfD’s approval rating

I think what I find so repellent about the far-right is the sheer nihilism at its core. For all the talk of culture and identity, they are just flimsy masks strapped over, in Arendt's words "the intoxication of destruction as an actual experience, dreaming the stupid dream of producing the void.”

This morning, I started the audiobook of The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin. It's the first book of hers that I've read, and so far it is amazing. I'm sure I'll share more when I finish.

The geniuses at the Democratic Party settling on “maybe we were too woke” rather than “a cabal of billionaire pedophile Nazis are stealing your money and taking a sledgehammer to your future” is astonishing. Just one of those things

Are people finally waking up? The real fight isn’t about bathrooms or drag queens—it’s about who holds power & at whose expense. Culture war is just a distraction, keeping working people too busy fighting each other rather than noticing who’s actually robbing us blind: billionaires—not each other!

Is there any clearer example of the commercial property investor class’ grip on the media than constant articles criticising working from home

“Let them suffer the consequences of their actions.” I see this so much in my mentions, often from anonymous accounts who could be bots or ops for all I know, but whatever they are, they are trying to normalize a false bifurcation. If “they” are suffering, so are people you consider to be “us.”

The freezing rain has arrived 🌨 Charge all the things 🔌

In an attempt to help people transition here from other platforms (esp. Xitter, Meta), I put together a list of accounts of people and organizations I know of in the Albany/Capital District area. https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:l2pmn3bktfind6iq3u56lx7z/lists/3lhlhmsnfe62w

If the Democratic leadership is conceding one-party rule, then the progressive wing of the party needs to step up and take the reins. We've had 33 long years of neoliberalism in the party. Time to try something else. The modern GOP is not interested in bipartisanship. Time to move on.

If the US blocks access to HRT, ADHD drugs, and SSRIs, I cannot begin to describe to you how much all of the tech sector will screech to a halt. The internet is built and maintained by trans people, people with chronic depression, and the neurodivergent. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

The Times Union published an article on Thursday about a bill passed by the New York State Legislature intended to increase protection of sensitive health data collected by consumer apps. According to the article, the bill would prohibit the sale of health data... https://sam.upstate.blog/?p=1614

"You pay every time you board a bus, and that makes you think about whether you want to ride it. If you paid every time you used a parking space, you'd also think about whether you want to drive. Free parking doesn’t mean free markets; it often means freeloading." —the late Donald Shoup

democrats discovered the power of polling in the 90s under clinton and in the next 30 years convinced themselves that they can't do anything unless the polls "say they can." they give up on the notion that they can actually tweak public opinion via... leadership.

The bricks didn’t throw themselves! Stonewall would not have happened without the trans community. You can’t change history, and we won’t allow you to erase our family!
