I loved Target because their nice young employees brought my stuff out to the parking lot in all kinds of weather, put everything in the trunk of my car and closed the trunk. Very convenient. But when they dropped their DEI initiative, they lost me for good.
Have heard multiple anecdotal stories of people who weren't Costco customers becoming Costco customers. Can't buy that kind of good will. Trust is earned.
They deliver and remove old appliances or mattresses!
And they have a great refund replacement policies.
I bought a mattress, slept on it for weeks, hated it. They exchanged for different mattress, and took away unwanted mattress with no packaging, AND took away my old mattress! No charge.
😎
I canceled Prime, then canceled Amazon Music. They asked why, but the list of reasons didn’t include “because I refuse to buy from fascists who are ruining my country!”
Me too!! And I’m a Senior who doesn’t buy bulk but friends and I are strategically buying snd splitting items between us. It’s a pleasure to give Cosco my business! Screw you Target and Amazon! I can proudly say I never was a Walmart shopper! Viva la Resistance!
I got a Costco membership for Christmas and I live in Portland. It's unreal how crowded the stores are. There are lines way down the street at some locations just to get into the parking lot on weekends.
When the minimum wage was raised to $30 an hour before the hot mess express came to town $52 was livable. Congratulations. If you want to live I would start a union today. Lovely storm that is brewing here. I love capitalism. What does not kill me make me invincible 🤦🏻♀️
Got my 1st Costco membership last week. Store was clean and stocked with workers who were helpful and actually smiling! And it was crazy busy. Almost like happy employees help build your business. Who knew?
Capitalism trained you well with corporate branding. Because of you many small businesses owners will die this winter. Because you were to chicken to start a union at your place of employment. They are driving you back to the cities for a reasons. Selling off the farm land in Kansas NBD.
I support small businesses whenever I can and always have. They can not however fill all my needs. Costco is a viable alternative to Amazon which I refuse to use. And I am a proud union member.
We unfortunately reside in the hellscape that is a ruby-red state in the derp south, our shopping choices are very very limited, so we garden tear round & shop at a locally owned grocer. It's not much but it works.
I put Justice in my chicken mushroom mixture for ravioli. It was SO good! Also the Florida Seasoned Pepper is fantastic on avocados and guacamole. They’re such a great company
I love this idea! I think there are some websites that do this…maybe the opposite, too…but people feel different ways about them. Like Costco and Penzey’s, I’m choosing to spend my money at companies who share my similar values.
I need to check it out. In my first order I got like 10 things. I needed to check myself! So far o absolutely love everything I received and I’m looking forward to trying a few of the items I was eyeing. Love you can order a smaller size, too.
Penzeys opened a store just down the road from me (I’m in FL) and it’s a godsend! I love their product so much and their unapologetic political stance even more.
I live in the most densely populated county in the state, and we have 1 Costco in the entire county. It's over a 40-minute drive from me. It's why I canceled the membership I had years ago because I never went because it was extremely inconvenient . They need more locations for me to go back.
We had a similar issue (90+ minutes for us, though) and recently decided to try delivery (free 2-day over $75 for members). It's as good as Amazon prime. You're close enough to a store that you'd probably get same day grocery delivery for fresh items.
For reference, if you started driving at one end of my county, you'd still be in my county a 2 hour drive later. There are 3425 people per sq mile. We need more than 1 Costco to make that work.
I quit Walmart years ago when I realized many of their employees were on SNAP. Went to Target instead even though a bit more expensive, had nicer things and next to my Costco. No more Target now either.
Best to support small biz! I don’t shop any of those anymore. Cut out Whole Foods and Amazon after the election. Ebay/Etsy as stepping stones from Amazon to small/local biz.
I've been at this for a while now. Hobby Lobby was the first to go, years ago. Then I cut Chick-fil-a and Walmart. Schlotzsky's is now out for me. Here's a YouTube video with a list of those who donated to Project2025...the fools: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5ApF-hBy1Y
Same here. I refuse to purchase anything from Nike, Apple, chick-fil-a, hobby lobby, home depot, dropped Amazon prime in October, no more target. We buy food at a small regional market chain & local farmers, & grow most of our veggies.
Small actions do add up.....
I've canceled my Amazon Prime, my LA Times and WaPo subscriptions, and ditched my Target card. No, it's not been easy, but my conscience is worth more. Side bonus: I've saved a LOT of money.
Look up GrapheneOS ( @grapheneos.org ). Based off of the open source parts of Android. Privacy and security focused. I'm thinking of abandoning iOS for it. Escape both Google and Apple.
Sure am hoping your corporate owned farms are gonna suffer, suffer, suffer, greedy MF’S. Trump won’t give anything if no quid pro quo . Wants hamburgers and fries free ROFLMA. Only these are lives not games and bone spurs Trump has no clue what it takes to make his hamburgers and fries, doesn’t care
The other thing people need to check are investments…401k…all of it. If someone is investing your money into businesses that don’t hold your values then all the protesting, national striking, yelling, screaming..won’t mean anything. Specifically conglomerates that buy up single family homes, land.
After Trump won I moved all of my 401K into guaranteed accounts which doesn’t earn much but is also low risk. I’d be up for some kind of educational workshop to learn how to deal with investment firms and make sure money goes towards my values, however.
I wish everyone would do this. There are a lot of “green” investments. We have a guy not with a big company and we have to set up a call. I wouldn’t know how to do it on my own. I’ll bet there are people out there that do exactly this.
This is why I no longer shop at Fred Meyers a PNW grocery store owed by Kroger. Luckily I live in a place with other options. There are folks out there who are in food deserts that have limited options but everyone can stop buying from Amazon as a starting point.
$$$$ is the only language that is understood....
me2
consumers made these billionaires, we can take it away
know what you buy where it comes from and who actually owns it
We've had to change our shopping habits to align with our values, but does cost a little more. We stopped shopping at Walmart (and now Target too). We dropped Home Depot (and now Lowes too).
Getting our groceries at Winco, which takes a freeway trip.
When the blue shoppers are gone it will become obvious who the majority is and if you use critical thinking that should tell you who actually won the election.
You know I thought it would be hard too, but seeing bozo at Maro Largo did it for me, and I bought everything from Amazon -over 1k a month. I haven’t bought any since Jan 19th and it feels great.
SOOOOO hard! But I did it! Target is my new go-to, but their stance on DEI was troubling, so I’m still trying to find local vendors. Getting off Facebook was even harder, but so grateful for Bluesky! Good luck!
I really want to see this everywhere. Someone clearly tossed aside the preamble to the Constitution, the Constitution itself, and its amendments and our laws.
This is already in effect. Amazon just stated flat out that I no longer have the ability to download my content. So I told them to go fuck themselves, and tell Bezos to shove his rocket up his ass and light the fuse. I canceled my Prime membership and closed the Amazon account I’ve had since 1997.
Hi I'm a reporter with Voice of America. I'd like to talk with you about the boycott. If you'd like to share your thoughts, please let me know by COB today. My email is [email protected]. TIA
Using Amazon as a search engine to find the companies who sell the products you want to order is a great way to start. You buy direct from many of the companies who use the Amazon platform. Sometimes the price is the same because there is less markup. 😀
I cancelled prime and have stopped ordering. Selfishly I haven’t deleted my acct because audible is attached and I’d lose my books. When I’m through with listening to the books I purchased the acct will be deleted. I’m using what I’ve purchased but not buying more.
I am trying to convince the charity’s that I donate to to migrate away from Amazon. That is the only reason I still have it, as I donate through their wishlists.I have stopped stopped all auto ship, and shopping for myself, it was a substantial amount for my household. I hope that will help the cause.
Mine renews in July. I don't think they refund you for cancelling before renewal so I still have it but I'm consciously trying to use it as little as possible.
You can get a partial refund. So for you, it will be close to half your annual amount, since you used their services part of the year. You need to call them directly to get the partial refund.
I recently binned PayPal but still to do Amazon, it's coming though. That and avoiding buying anything American or American owned. Sorry to all the decent Americans out there but seeing what that 🍊💩is doing is making my blood boil.
My college age grandchildren were on my account, but I told them I was giving them one week to remove their information because I was shutting it down. They did and I closed it. I gave up Audible, too, since it is an Amazon feature. Haven’t missed any of it.
You'll be surprised after you do it. It's easier than you think after about 90 days. Also, try and keep the tax dollars in your city or county benefits where you live (unless you live in a state with no sales tax). Americans don't really need more stuff in their house.
How can this be tough???? Is it because you are addicted to the dopamine hit of pointless consumerism? Just buy what you NEED from local shops. I live in deep ruralhood and haven't used amazon or any online shops in 10+ years.
I thought kicking Walmart and Target to the curb would be tough, but I don't miss them. And, I'm spending less money by staying away. No more carts full of random stuff. More money staying put in my bank accounts. Feels good.
Ok, I cancelled Prime and a PBS Kids subscription we had through Amazon Instant Video, logged my TV out, deleted payment methods, and deleted all 7 Amazon apps I had on my phone.
You got it! When you have a productive streak you can make a list of green light companies. Like for me Costco, Dicks and Staples. You can get a lot online ordering from them that you'd be surprised by.
I believe you can still stream PBS through other channels, like your local PBS station and PBS Passport. But yea, those technofeudals have enslaved us pretty hard.
Amazon is not as tough as you would think. You end up spending less I believe! We dropped them over a month ago and it has been great! You need to wade through the monopoly that is Amazon when you are shopping online. So be prepared for that. We find that we end up going to local businesses!
Same! But being disabled sometimes Amazon is the only place I can find things (I don’t drive) but I have found websites for almost everything now and then Bezo’s can 🖕🏻
I only use their streaming service I will never buy from them because they screwed me out of all the money they owe me for selling off my video collection 20 years ago.
I cancelled all my Amazon subscribe & save orders, deleted the app & attempt to buy anything from almost anyone else. EXCEPT Target and Walmart. I very occasionally have to get something off Amazon if I can’t find it elsewhere. I deleted FB, Insta, WhatsApp, TikTok (that hurt the most).
I hear you. It was easy cutting off Target...painless cutting off Walmart...cutting off Amazon gutted me. Cancelling my subscriptions was okay, but I'm a 70yo man with mobility issues. Deliveries from Prime have been my lifeline. AND I've been a Coke drinker for 6 decades! Can I get some applause?
Applause to you! I wonder if there is a single parent needing extra money in your area that would become a replacement for your prime deliveries? A better way to spend your money - DECENTRALIZE!
All of us should aspire to your level of getting shit done. Bless you sir. You’ll realize Amazon was nothing but a money drain that gave you lower quality for convenience.
Off it for three months (quit Prime in July). I only buy necessities now and I order online from Costco, which has kept their DEI program. Better delivery than Amazon. You can do it, I know you can. ❤️
Amazon is a total con job. Best decision I’ve done in the last few heads.
Looked at my orders: 100% of purchases was stuff I didn’t need or easily could have picked up from a local store. What the hell was I spending an annual fee for??
It's not easy and that's ok. They've made extreme convenience the norm. It takes effort to find that one weird specific little thing, or to drive to the grocery store AND the hardware store AND the pharmacy. But we CAN live without them. We CAN wait a few extra days for a package, or shop local
I think the existence of platforms and tools like these is great. For example, I see Bluesky heading in the direction of substantial influence and am supportive of that. It’s when their leadership let it go to their heads and start making evil decisions that I have a problem.
Bluesky provides choice and transparency in its feed algorithms. @bsky.app uses an underlying, open protocol (@atproto.com) that other apps developed by other organizations can use
My Amazon account was renewed prior to this. Since they don't offer refunds, I'm riding out the storm until then. I've just greatly reduced my shopping
To expect everyone to just stop shopping at certain stores is not realistic and won’t happen. I look at it like recycling “every little bit helps” rather than doing nothing at all!
This is what I've done. I've shifted as much as possible to companies that align with my beliefs (Costco for me) and cut out unnecessary consumerism. But the things I get on Amazon are things I cannot find local and other stores do cost significantly more. Doing something is better than nothing
Cancelled my Target incircle card no shopping there. Opened a Costco membership. No more Amazon , I will to websites to order things if the comany hasn't bent the knee. For books back to Barnes and Noble or indie book stores, or the library. It isn't that hard to do, we just have to break habits.
I feel that a similar thing is happening in Canada. I have never shopped at Walmart and now do not go to Home Depot. There is a surge of “ Buy Canadian” happening. About time I say.
We all need to start asking ourselves if continuing to feed our insatiable material desires for self-worth or whatever we get, is really worth becoming serfs living under these robber barons. Because that’s their goal - to form a landed nobility class while the rest of us doing little more than work
Do the same online. Order directly from companies, not through Amazon. Switch browsers and search tools away from Google. (I now use DuckDuckGo and Firefox.) Get the heck off x.
Swisscows is now my search engine. I’m ending my dealings with Amazon and Google. YouTube will be the hardest to leave but I’ll do it. I quit x long ago. I’m using the app, GoodsUniteUs like it’s a bible. Also I’m moving my money out of corporate banking to a credit union.
I love this. Since we can't get help from the people we elected, until its time for us to fire them too, then we have to take civil actions. I agree and I support the boycotts.
Yup. I am one of them. Stayed away from Wendy's this weekend.. haven't had a GOYA product in my house in nearly 8 year; and in the last 2 years, I deactivated X, all things META, and TikTok..Oh, and I'm just getting started.
This Canadian thanks you and others in this thread for concretely protesting and offering real ideas for how USians can fight back and reclaim your country. Canadians are also boycotting all US goods, services, and travel. Indefinitely. We have to hit those greedy f#cks where it hurts.
Standing in the long line to get a Costco membership felt a lot like standing in line to vote. I know I am fortunate to be able to participate in these ways.
Is the number really that low? That's upsetting. How can people square their consciences to give money to people like Musk, Bezos, & Zuck? And organizations that collaborate like Walmart & Target? Voting with your wallet is another way we have to protest. Don't give up that power for convenience.
I live in the middle of no where. I have to drive 45 minutes to town. I'm trying to focus my food purchases on Costco as much as possible; however, Walmart is 20 minutes away as the closest grocery store. I do avoid Tractor Supply, Target, and others. I donate to counter balance the spend.
I switched all my shopping for a one month's supply at grocery outlet for same reason. Takes me a long time to go thru line but I go when its not really that busy.
I like that! I'll add local food banks to my list 🙂
I did avoid Walmart on Monday as part of the economic strike. My husband was shocked when I declined to go ahead of our expected snowmaggedon. I got what I needed at Costco and spent too much at a local yarn shop.
Rural America is still very rural. Wal-Mart ran everything else out decades ago and is the only grocery option within 45 minutes of my mom. She can't be as scrupulous about this as I can with several locally owned grocery options within my metro area. You do what you can.
There are many communities that have no source of food other than a Wal-Mart and whatever gas station or convenience store can survive. I lived for a while in NM south valley. I didn't have a car. Circle K, Whataburger (couldn't afford) and Wal-Mart.
Yes. Someone else reminded me of that. I'm ashamed that I didn't consider that before writing my post. My only excuse is that the baby woke me up in the night and I was very tired. I'll try to remember that not everyone has the privilege of deciding where they can shop. Thank you.
But you were absolutely right to emphasize the power of choice, however small. Even a given act done with good intentions has more power than the same act mechanically performed. Have a good one :)
So I wrestle w/ this bc sams &Walmart are the lowest cost for delivery. I'm disabled w/ssdi. I try to shop at Aldi as much as I can & I've cut down to only necessities from them. Most don't realize the xtra cost of instacart etc.
There are a ridiculous number of fees charged by services like that. Like, why am I paying a fee to door dash when I order carryout? (Which is why I don't, but you understand)
I really miss Coke Zero. One good thing that has come from this is I shop local a lot more. It may not be as convenient and maybe a bit more expensive but it feels good to not give my money to greedy corporations.
please permanently tie minimum wage to the cost of living and end this class/earnings b.s. Every time the greedy ceo's and major stock holders give themselves a raise we all get a raise. Every time the corrupt politicians give out huge tax cuts to the uber wealthy we all get a raise ... see ...
I've made my retail choices over the years based upon responsible corporate practices.
No Walmart - Ever.
Whenever possible:
Local Hardware store
Local grocery stores
Local producers
Local businesses and restaurants.
I'm not perfect - some things require buying from large orgs. But I try.
#resist
Not only will a change in perception of your community help but it will form new bonds and strengthen them. Humans tend to be cautious, if not intimidated by the unknown. I want to know my community, I want them to know a label doesn't define you and at the end of the day we all want a peaceful life
If we can manage to change the #public perception on things, & reverse this #isolationism #technology has brought us to, maybe we can see what healing society is like. I am so afraid that we've already hit the #Fourth-Reich point of no return & will need to fight, but those people have been #tricked
I see the #good in #everyone & that is my #downfall. I understand it's a terrible #weakness to have but I do think almost anyone can be brought to see #reason through #logic and #empathy. I know I am wrong yet my unwavering faith in humanity holds me up. I see our evil & I know it can be conquered.
I haven't set foot in a target or Walmart since early January, and don't plan to. Such a shame too, because I always got my dog food from Walmart, so I'd go in every 3 weeks and look around and buy other things I needed. And Target was my go to place to buy whatever I wanted for my house or to wear.
Of course it’s easy, the need to get stuff is manufactured by external forces and the artificial need to keep up with the Joneses, it’s all just mindfuck to keep this consumer based economy that benefits only the few.
We have also done that also along with any media that supports the criminal! I have written off people who were in my life but wouldn’t see the crimes. I have fewer people now but none are supporting any criminals!
We have as well. Sick and tired of maga and those who support them/him. Any business I walk into which has Fox, OANN or Newsmax on, I turn around and walk out. I don't care if I've already ordered and paid for something. I walk!
Took all Meta Platforms down, Deleted Amazon, Twitter was long gone, downloaded the Goods Unite us app. Fuck any entity that supports this administration.
Sorry, 💙 Americans, I think it's time for the Friends of Ukraine to start boycotting American products, like we already boycott Russian goods and services? That's the only pressure point that Trump will respond to.
I've already started. Amazon Prime renewal cancelled. #slavaukraini
I think most of us will understand. I am just so sorry we failed…we failed the world. And those of us who have been upset about this person for ten years now are so freaking tired.
Big love
This is not symbolism, this is capitalism at its finest. Choosing to resist with our money to support or boycott companies with ethics and policies we align or not with is the most basic form of resistance. If you're happy standing around holding signs that's cool, but money talks.
Because we are in a capitalistic society. Not everyone is capable of being self sufficient homesteaders growing, hunting, gathering, and making everything. I choose to be a conscientious consumer that cares about the environment, how employees are treated and compensated, what politics they play.
I care about the Environment… that’s why I drive a Tesla… it’s Electric. I did not buy it because of the thoughts and ideals of Musk so why would I sell it for the exact same ideals.
Japan bombed Pearl Harbor… does that mean you should not buy a Toyota?
I drive a Polestar2 because I would never buy anything that Musk touched before he became a right wing lunatic. I've never liked anything Toyota made. We're not the same.
Where do you live? Do you have universal healthcare? For most of us, our healthcare is tied to our jobs. Miss work, get fired and your whole family suffers. It's part and parcel of our slavery to our jobs, that's why the fat cats get away with so much.
Working on it. We've already dumped some things and looking for more. I don't post to fb or instagram anymore - a happy birthday is pretty much it. I don't talk to trumpsters. Have had no contact with my son in almost a year. You can love bannon or you can love me. but you can't love bannon and me.
Also, Coke made a special edition bottle of Diet Coke for Trump and posted the photo op. Disgusting. I used to, on occasion drink, Coke Zero, but no more Coke beverages ever again.
In case you stopped drinking coke over them calling ICE on their own employees. I cannot find anything at all to support that claim. It looks to be misinformation. If you stopped for health reasons, great job!
That’s fantastic. Just don’t go without telling them. Let them know you’re leaving and why and if they get thousands of calls a day, maybe they’ll change their team, or maybe they won’t but at least she won’t be supporting shit you don’t believe in.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Dear friends, I need your support! ❄️🛵
Getting around in the winter as a paraplegic is a daily struggle, but an enclosed mobility scooter would be life-changing—giving me the freedom and independence I desperately need. Please consider donating or sharing my GoFundMe🙏✨🔗 https://gofund.me/0af928df
We picked it back up during the pandemic because it’s the most convenient store to us and they had delivery, but when my Walmart plus membership expired I left it that way and haven’t been back.
Guess what too you can buy literally anything from somewhere other than Amazon. Its not even that hard. And Elron is fully divested from PayPal so that's the play. Most everywhere takes it.
Easily dropping Amazon really depends on your income and where you live. In some areas, the choices for non-food goods are limited to Walmart, Target, Amazon, and Home Depot.
Yes, we shut down our Amazon account and are buying items we had on repeat purchase directly from the makers. Some items are a little more expensive, but it's worth it to us.
No more Meta
No more Target or Walmart
No more Google
No more Amazon
It’s hard having to pay for shipping (or put $50 in the cart for free shipping!!)
It takes more work to find the exact thing I’m looking for!!
I’m bored bc I don’t have Facebook
And Bing sucks
There are lists of the companies that helped get Trump elected, supported the right-wing SCOTUS judges plus lists of Blue corporations here: https://www.goodsuniteus.com/
I think the article is likely correct as written even though I agree it's confusing. There could be both 4 out of 10 who have "shifted their purchasing" and 25% that dropped stores that supported Trump. Both are surprisingly high actually.
That's not what the headline says though. The headline and text below it do not say that people dropped stores that supported trump. It says 25% of people changed their shopping based on politics and then says twice that it is 4 out of 10.
It seems the headline is lying to downplay the shift.
A great idea as far as it goes, for middle class folks a wonderful idea, but the majority of Americans are working class, at will employees, locked in by raw finances to shopping where they can afford, sadly that is the oligarchs stores. It is the new fascade on the old company store of the 20's
Dumping stores over politics is the single most toxic and dramatic thing I’ve ever seen. Shop where you want. Keep politics out of the equation, better life. I ain’t depriving myself of my favorite things because of politics. That’s just dumb lol!
The problem is that the government is being run by soulless businessmen and their buddies who only care about $$$. Boycotting their businesses to impact their bottom line is one of the few ways to get them to listen. Politics determine quality of life, it hugely matters.
If you say so 🤷♂️ I’m still gonna shop where I want though. Boycotting does nothing I’ve learned over the years. So no I’m not gonna boycott and deprive myself. No thanks.
Boycotting only works if enough people do so. 25% of the population (or more if the 4 in 10 is accurate) is huge. Ofc do what you want, but you don't need to "deprive" yourself of anything to shop elsewhere. The point is finding ethical sources for what you need, not going without.
And, to be clear, boycotting a little is still better than nothing at all. For instance, I live rurally so Amazon is my only source for a number of things. Instead of not using it, I use it less and buy more locally without ditching it entirely.
Target is also being sued by stockholders for not disclosing the financial risk involved in dropping their DEI initiatives, and hiding the financial hit they took after caving in to bigoted crybabies about Pride.
Same!!! I priced tile years ago on Wayfair but then found sane tile on fb marketplace for $100. And now I'm determined to find everything secondhand or on Buy Nothing.
Organize a neighborhood swap. You can find some amazing things. Just have people bring household items, clothes, kids toys all in good condition and set up some tables. Put everything out and you take what you need.
Kind of on the fence about Kroger that owns Fred Meyer near me in the Pacific NW. I hear they still kept initiatives. Target surprised me and I'm never going there. Luckily for me there are lots of farmers markets near me too. I cannot state enough, support your local farmers the most.
Anytime you buy direct from farmers or at your local grocery store you are supporting fellow workers not big corporations. In the end, who will have your back when you need it??? Not corporations.
I was surprised to hear Kroger kept their initiatives. It was a relief as that’s literally the only grocery store in my city. Well, there’s WalMart Neighborhood Market, but I’ve never stepped into the place and have been in WalMart maybe 5 times in last 15 years.
You can find fresh produce, meats, and seafood at H-Mart, usually much netter prices, too. Check out 99 Ranch, and other Asian markets. It's great for small businesses, and your wallet.
True about farmers markets. Farm stores are a great place to get eggs. The cost may be higher than in the fall but they are not insane as in grocery stores because there is no middle man.
I am with you on that. I live in Utah , and it makes it a little harder for me to avoid red states, but I try my best not to spend money on them by packing food/water and car camping, etc. I plan on visiting mountains/parks in CA mostly this year.
Just got back from Hawaii (a very blue state) and joined the 50 50 01 protest at the State House on Presidents’ Day. 1,000 protesters, 6 Trumpkins—it was a grand day! #505001 #PresidentsDayProtest
I truly wish I lived in Canada 🇨🇦 . I went to PEI, Halifax, Digby, St. John, this past summer. People were so nice, no anger, no guns. I’ve been to Montreal,Calgary, Banff, and Vancouver. Next up this summer is Quebec City💙
I LOVE CANADA❣️❣️❣️
Same. I started with Xfinity. My bill went from $268 in December to $312 in January with no upgrades. Delmarva power went up $100 a month in what is called a “Delivery Charge.” So many complaints were filed with our State Legislators they have set up meetings with the power company.
And I guarantee you nothing will be done because the government takes payouts from corporations to do their bidding and look the other way when illegal shit is going on with the services and company
Bets staying silent and doing nothing. This is step one. If you know how we can fight back and win, please let me know. I know all these companies and corporations are aligning with our corrupt government.
I highly recommend negotiating. You will be surprised at how much you save based on that. And also do a test of your speed to make sure you’re getting what you pay for each month.
I have negotiated with Xfinity numerous times over 40 years and you are right. The difference today is streaming. So many options to get what you want to see, much cheaper.
I’ve stopped ALL unnecessary spending. The only people making money off me right now is the local liquor store, the dispensary and my favorite pizza place. I’m not doing ANYTHING to help this economy. I want it to crash.
Every American should do this. And Norway should dump all its shares in US companies. It’s time to take the gloves off and wreck the value of 8000 companies. But our spineless PM won’t :-(
Fighting to get rid of NLRB - to get rid of unions - also in WA state using facial recognition to check your profile and modify prices for you. Wear a mask if you shop at any of their stores- should wear a mask anyway, but an extra reason !
I personally allowed myself to continue shopping because it is employee owned and the corporate side has little input/influence over it . The CEO and board are Republican.. but the local stores, employees and union are worth supporting. So i say its a personal choice to shop there still
They are for my wallet, at least. It's an employee owned company though, so I'd be surprised if they also started cutting programs that help employees just to bend a knee to Trump.
i just did some research. sure in heck they are good guys. i don’t have one close to me but ill take the time to drive to it now. i have upped all my costco shopping. the problem is there are times i don’t need 50 pounds of hamburger and 75 loaves of bread 😂. winco will be great to supplement!😍
Be aware, you can't use credit cards to pay at WinCo. Debit cards are fine, and obviously cash, check, EBT, and gift cards, just no buying groceries on credit. It's the only reason my parents haven't been shopping there, but the prices are good enough they're talking about shopping with cash again!
Don't use GoodsUniteUs. Use https://opensecrets.org. Winco has a very low contribution level so the ratio is easily lopsided, and contributions are from individuals. Most of Winco's locations are in blue states/counties and the workers benefit from company ownership rather than billionaires.
i was on goodsunite last night. i can see all the donations but couldn’t figure out where to find if they are dei too. i mean one could assume if given large amounts to dems that’s true but not the case. if u look at amazon on there for example. i will check this open secrets out too. thx u
Download Goods Unite Us app. Very helpful but sometines very disappointing. Even the small things, like my Sargento Balanced Breaks. Just have to buy the ingredients spearately from companies I can support and make my own. Not convenient, but conveniece is a luxury we can't afford.
i tell my family we simply don’t have the choice and we are only getting what we need, nothing more. we are not participating in trump economics, which includes companies following his dog whistle on dei! i will download the app.
Same. I am in a rural area as well. I’d rather support my local Walmart which supplies community jobs than Amazon. I dropped Target completely, reduced Amazon 95%, and have overall shut off most of my discretionary spending. Only necessities for now.
I'm also in a rural area and was just saying last night I never thought I'd see the day where Walmart was the lesser of two evils!
We do what we can. I'm done with online giants. Starve the rich.
That's mine issue also, Walmart is the only option. There is an independent grocery store but is owned by a hyper conservative/basically Amish family that keep trying to get on school boards and attack lgbtq kids so I also don't want to give them my money 😭
Same! It sucks because I remember my area before Walmart came to town. They ruined our local economy. At least 12 stores closed because they couldn't compete with Walmart. There's not a simple fix either. Walmart would have to leave for the small businesses to come back. But that would take time.
My church is organizing centralized shopping lists. A couple people will travel to a costco or other business and buy everything and then items and cost are divvied up. It's been helpful, but not everyone is within a few hours of costco or other retailers.
I live in a rural area. I've run out places to shop. 20 miles away we have Lowes, Menards, Kohls, Walmart (haven't shopped there in years), Target (haven't shopped there in many months), and Meijer. Other than small grocery stores and local pharmacies, I have nowhere to go for essentials. Ugh.
Shopping only locally owned hardware stores, ordering directly from a manufacturer instead of Amazon unless I can find at a local store—shopping in person and locally at every opportunity
I have. For sure. I no longer shop at Target. I’m super mad about it, but I am still not going to shop there. I want to shop at Target, but I just can’t.
Our insurance only allows us to use CVS pharmacies and the closest one to us is in a target, unfortunately. But that’s the extent of our target shopping.
My niece is 26. Ever since before she could talk, her eyes would light up if we told her we were taking her to Target. As an adult, she had her favorite "comfort Target". But she refuses to shop there now. They lost a lifelong customer!
Olive Garden, red lobster, Darden group restaurants, Applebees, papa John’s, hobby lobby, Walmart, along with any local business that put out republican signage have been on the list for 15 years.
FYI the stat refers to those who stopped shopping at their favorite stores (second bullet in the story after the first paragraph) whereas 4 in 10 refers to those who shifted their spending entirely to align w/morals. They just headlined the punchier stat haha (research verbiage is so nuanced)
Ahh, I see 🤔 Thanks 😊 I didn’t catch the difference in English but I would actually think that the bigger story would be 40% changing their shopping patterns entirely to align with morals instead of 25% who “just” stopped shopping at their favorite store.
Going around to local shops and living my life with what's available there is almost like being in an #RPG. Much more fulfilling than striving for a cookie-cutter corporate dream
I don't disagree. However, with so many people's jobs tied to healthcare, not just for themselves but for their families, I think we are going to have to find a different way to protest.
🎤I have been stockpiling since last year when I heard Trump "allegedly" won the election. I have chosen not to patron establishments that do not have diversity, equity & inclusion policies in place. #25% #92%
In the process of doing the same. https://Bookshop.org has really helped with the book buying and I've replaced my Kindle with a Boox Palma (made in China but idc).
Where do I buy electronics that Costco doesn't sell is my main question. Any suggestions?
I wish usa citizens was same regarding russian companies, when they started FUCKING WAR in 2014, or at least 2022. Or even earlier, in 2008.
Oh, i forgot, its called "double standarts" or hypocrisy
It must grow. And if not so the US would be the first country drowning in fascism without major economic problems, without military defeat, without losing territories. But just because general issues within DoE.
I've said it before & I'll say it again. I shop at garage sales. Plus I'm old & have 3 of everything, if I can find it. My microwave broke & I remembered I had one in the closet. Lo and behold there it was.
I've learned that I don't actually need the things I thought I needed. I can do without a new lamp from Amazon. I'll be fine. But my moral code required that I buy a couple new T-shirts. I can hardly wait to wear them to jury duty.
Thrift stores are the place to get stuff like lamps. Even when the recession hits, people are going to donate their things when their houses get foreclosed.
I don't want to buy things that were stolen from decent working people. But I do like thrift stores and there are several nearby. Thank you for the suggestion. I will put it on my list for my next stroll around the neighborhood.
There's a ton of payment apps out there. It's inconvenient to switch, yes, but this isn't a time for convenience! We managed just fine before they existed and we can adapt. They are 💯 COUNTING on us thinking we can't!
There are other boycotts I don't mind being inconvenienced for.
No one is going to be 100% inconvenienced cause it goes really deep such as car, insurance, home energy ect.. services and goods we use on the daily are in bed with Trumputincan party. Even the Amish need supplies Maga corporations.

Great job @diretalks.bsky.social solid, clear, concise analysis
No more Amazon. Never Walmart. Hobby lobby is a religious sect of evil. Home Depot has sucked for a long time. If one goes back to pre 90s, purchase survival isn’t that hard.
I get that, his grudge went back to the 50s, Koehler(his employer) was anti union so he only bought union made/supported products (and never stopped reminding us)
Not so much about learning as sticking to you values (know what they are) and find alternatives or go without (understand differences of want/need). Make the commitment then hold to it.
Once you accept the fact that you can live without a product or a supplier, shifting habits and allegiances isn't too difficult. My favorite department store wouldn't issue a credit card in my name after a divorce in the 80s, so decades of their effort to lock me in as a customer went pff!
I've started using Amazon more as a catalog than a retailer. Paying more for shipping, but assuming that the difference is going to workers, I'm ok with that
Don’t act dumb. Don Vito Corleoni is a mobster and a fictional character. Thinking this way made many ppl vote for trump… he is rough speaking, conman tv star. Blah blah
I want to see their profits drop 50, 75 100 percent. We can't rest until we see them DELISTED from the Stock market. THAT is when we know we beat them.
I think that the day cRump replaces the the secret service with the oath keepers or the proud boys as his body guards (in lovely brown or black uniforms of course) might, maybe, could, potentially alert some “unaligned” folks as to the clear and present danger.
I would if most of the local stores which are family owned didn’t have trump signs at their business in my redneck town. One hardware store had Harris signs. He’s gets our business
I've been modifying my buying habits for years.
I'm quite happy going to thrift shops for much of what I need, trying to buy local, CSA for fresh food, several local grocery stores for the rest.
Haven't been in a mall for years, very occasionally shop in big box stores, only for specific items.
Who are the ones to boycott? I've just been avoiding the monopolies like Amazon. I don't know which ones are aligned politically with whom so I'm asking.
Yes!! Haven’t stepped foot in target in over and month, deleted Amazon, and had already left the others. I thought I would Miss target but I absolutely do not. In fact, every time I buy ANYTHING I ask myself do I need it bad enough to put more money into HIS economy. It works every time
I found a local Chinese market I love; they carry so much variety and the people are very kind. It’s worth the 30 minutes drive (Walmart, Publix, & Winn Dixie are within 3) and their prices are best by far. I am ret military so will start shopping at the base commissary as well. Just takes planning!
My impulse spending has significantly reduced. Like you said it gives me time to think and time to look. To see if I already have something that will work. This has been the best thing to curb my over consumption. Now if we can have ads limited on social platforms that would be awesome.
This is good news and I can't say it enough. The best way to peacefully protest is to HOLD BACK OUR SPENDING POWER. Stop giving our hard earned money to the ogylarchy that is oppressing us.
I deactivated instagram , Facebook , I have not ordered anything from Amazon for 6 months , and sadly own a Tesla , I’m looking at selling , but also making a lot more educated decision , when it comes to where we spend our money , hurt them where they feel it .
Actually I think I will just go toward a car manufacturer who does have EV , not a solely EV car manufacturer .
But reading all about it , as they are now a lot more companies in that market .
Do you have any to suggest , you have experience with??
Same for me. Told a friend I quit Yuengling; he said don’t let politics interfere with beer drinking. I told him plenty of other good choices. Dos Equis or Modelo Negra for me.
I’m in that 25% too.
I haven’t been to Target since Christmas and I haven’t purchased anything from Amazon since Christmas. I used to get daily deliveries!
Even my UPS driver commented!!
As a Canadian we are serious about this. First we buy Canadian, then from good companies like Costco that employ Canadians, then anywhere but the US. In my neighbourhood you used to see tons of Amazon vans. Now I see almost none. Flights are being cancelled to the US as are Airbnbs. It’s glorious.
As an American, please do this anywhere and everywhere you are able. We need them to feel this the only way they understand, by not giving them money. Their revenue stream getting impacted could be the only way they'll reconsider their stance.
As an American, I love that Canadians are doing this. Actions have consequences and none of you ever deserved being treated like this. We hate this too. Sending solidarity.
I feel bad for innocent people getting caught up in this, but we are united against the orange dictator and his followers. In my province, we pulled liquor from red states off our shelves. Who knew Canadians were the biggest consumers of Kentucky bourbon! No more.
As a border state American, I stand with my Northern neighbor. I'm so sorry that Americans failed you AND US. I support your boycott. Now please be careful in your upcoming elections!!!
Thx, though I hope it doesn't actually get to the point where we actually end up balkanizing into several smaller countries recognized by the international community; it would be a mess. IMO Canada should just annex us.
It’s going to be a hard pinch regardless. The shit they are doing at breakneck speed will have poor economic outcomes, even if you ignore the talks of obliterating our closest allies and the ensuing boycotts. I fear we are hosed for many years and I worry about my children’s future
In PA's capitol and I see maybe one or two Amazon vans a day when I used to see at least ten or twenty. At the No President's Day protest we had one drive past and EVERYONE booed.
I totally support and encourage Canadians to not buy products from the USA. As an American I have become very cautious of the products I buy and where I buy them from.
I’m in a conundrum about membership only because I love my kindle paperwhite so much. Stupid reason? Absolutely but I love reading, and slipping it under the pillow is awesome.

And they have a great refund replacement policies.
I bought a mattress, slept on it for weeks, hated it. They exchanged for different mattress, and took away unwanted mattress with no packaging, AND took away my old mattress! No charge.

Getting our groceries at Winco, which takes a freeway trip.
No shame on those who cannot afford to do so.
Please don’t compare the GOP’s immoral boycott of Budweiser to Democrats’ moral boycott of Tesla.
I did it yesterday, got the refund.
Give me $150 per year for the privilege of buying stuff on repeat that you don’t actually need.

Looked at my orders: 100% of purchases was stuff I didn’t need or easily could have picked up from a local store. What the hell was I spending an annual fee for??
Maybe use Brave instead

I did avoid Walmart on Monday as part of the economic strike. My husband was shocked when I declined to go ahead of our expected snowmaggedon. I got what I needed at Costco and spent too much at a local yarn shop.
No Walmart - Ever.
Whenever possible:
Local Hardware store
Local grocery stores
Local producers
Local businesses and restaurants.
I'm not perfect - some things require buying from large orgs. But I try.

Also saying "four in 10" is bad writing too, the rule is it should be written 4 in 10 or 4 out of 10. That's just what I was taught in school.
It seems the headline is lying to downplay the shift.

They're not just things you were born with, they're intentional choices based on understanding the importance of your values.
People have been robbed of this understanding.

Does this mean we can expect 007 to switch sides and work for facists and oligarchs from now on?

Never shopping big box store again. They don't save you anywhere near as much money as you think! They skim off the top for overhead costs.
But reading all about it , as they are now a lot more companies in that market .
