you know another 33-year-old man who shocked the establishment when he pulled off a miracle?

The path for Democrats is very clear: have good ideas, believe in them, state them clearly, stick to them, act decisively in support of these ideas, speak to the young half of the electorate, support other democrats who do these things. Follow Mamdani and Lander's example or fade into nothingness.

these people are already terrified to set foot in midtown, what do they care

I can't emphasize enough how ugly and pervasive and persistent the "Mamdani hates Jews" campaign was. I'm happy that so many Jews stood strong against that vileness. Maybe people will start to understand that we've had it with being treated as a paranoid, easily manipulated single-issue bloc.

Important to reflect on how relentlessly Mandani's foes strove to pin "antisemitism" on him—and how miserably the tactic flopped, in New York City, the world capitol of the Jewish diaspora. There's a lesson here. A lot of us (and by "us" I mean Jews) have had it with this shit.

urge to have opinion about local election… rising

Hey New York

Six months ago, we had Big Balls, hope, and cash

This is a dazzling piece by Amy Taubin on the eighth episode of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks: The Return.” It’s criticism at its absolute finest. @amyornot.bsky.social mubi.com/en/program-n...

No charges for the driver, because it’s just understood that the streets are for two-ton people-squashing machines and anyone who gets in their way is taking their life in their hands.

makes me a little leery of this story that the guy's name is "Mads Mikkelsen"

Zohran remains SILENT on “Trix are for kids”

I loved Eldorado Drive. Exquisite bad vibes, like if Jim Thompson wrote about Amway.

He really thinks this is his Nobel

I refuse to sully the perfection of my ballot by actually picking 10 movies and removing it from the realm of infinite possibility

Fortunato (coughing): You’re certain the Criterion Closet is down here Montresor (picking up a trowel): Definitely. Have you thought about your picks yet

BIG NEWS: This morning, @kphipps3000.bsky.social and I have moved The Reveal from Substack to Ghost. You can get the details in the link below. It was a scary decision for us, but we're excited about it and expect to keep this newsletter going long into the future. thereveal.film/the-reveal-h...

I will always think of heat like this as Do the Right Thing weather

A reminder to check on your elderly neighbors today, but another, more important reminder that many of them will have rigged their homes with traps, waiting for a moment just like this to lure you in. Also, stay hydrated!

War … gee, I don’t know

Amazing. NYT has more confirmation that Trump's decision to bomb Iran was motivated in large part by the way the Israeli strikes were "playing" on Fox News, which drove him to want credit for it

not to rain on anyone’s parade, but while it’s great to see an overwhelming percentage of Americans don’t think we should go to war with Iran, it’s important to add that a substantial percentage of them aren’t sure if dropping bombs on Iran qualifies as war.

American Horror Story: America Measles is tearing through whole families (unvaccinated) in Texas. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/22/u...

this was a blast, with loads of people who’d never seen the film before. If time can redeem Death Becomes Her, What Lies Beneath deserves better than a 3.2 on Letterboxd. And my goodness, that Michelle Pfeiffer performance. God-tier.

so it’s a war when Iran needs to end it but not when we’re bombing them?
