I disagree. It was greed. Greed found a willing partner in certain religions. But greed was and still is the motive behind everything.

I moved from an ensuite bathroom with its own linen/storage closet to a hall bathroom with only a medicine cabinet. So now I keep everything in the clothes closet and have to commute to my room to do anything major. It's a big change.
