With how UNC has played at times this year there was a split second where I believed this

And here's another eligibility-related lawsuit against the NCAA. NC State football player Corey Coley Jr. has filed a lawsuit seeking a fifth year of eligibility based in part on a raft of injuries he suffered during his four years at NCSU and Maryland. drive.google.com/file/d/1gHsd...

Courtesy of Mit Winter on the other site: we have a lawsuit challenging the NCAA's rule against playing for two different schools in the same academic year. It's filed by an athlete who was preemptively cut due to the House settlement's roster limits. Just a stupid, stupid own goal by the NCAA.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED that lawmakers who would write a bill like this would do so sloppily.

🙄

The thing about sudden death hockey is that it is absolutely the greatest

Congrats to Canada (and UMass hero Cale Makar). What a game.

The hockey is good

This is why the Maple Leafs can't win the Cup

Binnington holy moly

Hockey leads all sports in people watching one game and saying “wow this sport is good I should watch it more often”

It's been said to death already but I'll add to the chorus: kudos to the NHL for finding an all-star format that the players actually care about. This is awesome.

Yep. My colleagues have seen student work cite quotes, sources, and information that does not exist. AI is not the answer we think it is. (And good on that judge for using their brain.)

What is Title IX, and what is its purpose? Guest writer Cara Hawkins-Jedlicka writes about how the problem isn't trans athletes; it's a lack of support for Title IX. @carabyrd.bsky.social favs.news/war-womens-s... #transsathletes #titleix #politics

I'm grateful for the opportunity to organize my thoughts on how to support women's sports. Also, I do have tickets to March Madness in Spokane.

Wow: City of Clarksdale, Mississippi got a court order yesterday directing a newspaper to delete an editorial criticizing city officials -- without a hearing. Here's the TRO issuing the prior restraint:

Chancellor Crystal Hines Martin of Hinds County, Mississippi has issued a prior restraint order so ludicrously unconstitutional it’s only consistent with deliberate misconduct or abject ignorance of the relevant law. Disgraceful and lawless. /1

I think we're more at the Huge Ass Beers stage.

The SEC and Big Ten ADs are set to meet Wednesday in New Orleans — a sequel to their October gathering. A table setter on the expected docket and the leagues’ ongoing collaborations “I don’t think we’re getting together to have beignets.” www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/sb-blogs/new...

Interesting. Here's my alternative take: Kill it with fire.

One very important lesson lawyers tell you is that anyone can write anything in a contract

This is especially funny because what purpose does this clause even serve other than appeasing the NCAA's fragility?

In the NASL case, US Soccer (and MLS) claimed that two DI leagues is fine and part of the design under the Pro League Standards, but NASL never met or was on a path to meet those standards. Now those claims will be put to the test when a presumably more qualified league applies.

BREAKING: The USL intends to launch a 12- to 14-team Division One league in 2027-28. USL believes the U.S. is more than capable of accommodating more D1 teams. “If soccer in the country is truly going to grow, it's going to grow outside of 30 or 32 markets." www.nytimes.com/athletic/612...

Big thanks to @samcehrlich.com for helping me — and my newsletter readers — catch up on some recently filed college sports lawsuits. Latest post is here, looking at the Hill and Allen cases (both v. NCAA) as they relate to House (also v. NCAA): collegesportsmoney.substack.com/p/hill-allen...

In the "Huh... that's interesting" category: two football fans have filed a lawsuit against the NFL for allegedly engaging in a group boycott of Bluesky. Can't say I have the highest of hopes for this one, but we'll see!

Josh Sweat for Super Bowl MVP. Do it, cowards.

Someone in MLS Communications is trying to win the Super Bowl championship for best timing on the release of news it wants to bury

I'd be livid if I were a Chiefs fan right now. Good lord.
