This is lovely. A guy saw a rock that looked a little like a face. So he took some paint and gave it a lil' nose. It was 43,000 years ago. And the guy was a Neandertal. www.sciencenews.org/article/olde...

Hey fam, just a wee reminder that I'm an artist and I draw lots of nature-inspired cool stuff including apparel, bandanas, and stickers (and enamel pins!) over at pepperraccoon.com <3 would appreciate some folks checking out the store, it's been real sleepy!

First post in a while, I hope everyone's having a fantastic 2025 so far! ^-^ I painted this weevil last night, he's just out here living his best life with his lil sandy snoot and boots 🏖️✨ #weevil #art

Some art since I haven't uploaded in forever thanks to a lot of annoying reasons🥲 Here's a io #moth I did for my Patreon in September!🍂✨️ They're one of my favourite moths probably, the colours on the different species are just so gorgeous

Art commissions are a GREAT gift for the holidays. It's not only something unique for the receiver, but also helps out artists over the holiday season. Who are some of your favourite artists taking commissions right now? 🎨

#InsertAnInvert2024 Blobfest - Disco blob Many sea creatures glow in the dark. Some acquire this by eating other glowing organisms like bacteria, but sea walnuts make their own light-emitting chemical. As they get eaten, they in turn enable their predators like other jellies to glow. 🎨 🐡

Similar thought if you’re a man thinking about getting a particular type of elective surgery. It takes a few weeks to months for your current supply to exhaust. In Seattle we have the excellently-named www.drsnip.com to do the procedure, and you even get a monogrammed pen knife (best swag ever).

This is the talk I gave my kids this morning. It’s up to us to help as many people as we can.

"All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed." —Watership Down

I am the trans person, so yes🏳️‍⚧️💖

How about some goofy animal photos for April Fool's Day? A yellow-eyed junco experiencing being a life bird. 🪶

Hey artists! Accessibility is important. If you see someone who is less likely to share your posts without alt text, consider the reasons why - more often than not, it's for low visibility or blind users, so they can have the same experience you do. If you struggle with this, there's options:

Just a few days left to sign up for next month’s Bug of the Month rewards! 💕

Quick portrait of a Crested Caracara 🎨 Do you ever get the urge to just drop everything and draw something, then carry on with your day? That's where this guy arose from. I love caracaras, they're endlessly fascinating. We're lucky to have these weird falcons around!

I think it’s very important you all know that this is what baby flamingos look like. Look at that cotton ball 🥹 when they are resting on the ground they are the silliest things I’ve ever seen 🪶🐡🌿

Cracking green brittlegill (Russula virescens) mushroom cap from the woods last year & my attempt to draw it in my sketchbook. Looking forward to going out in the woods this autumn 💚🍄

I asked an Indigenous colleague in Hawai'i where people can donate to and these were his suggestions (1/2): Hawaiʻi People's Fund: https://hawaiipeoplesfund.networkforgood.com/projects/200566-maui-aloha-the-people-s-response-fund ʻĀina Momona: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/kokuamaui

I am here for bizarre antennae, and this configuration, while nothing crazy compared to others, is not one I've seen before. I believe this is a male sawfly, and he's not content with the usual pair of antennae, he's got his split in 2, making it look like he has 4. 🤷 🐝🧪🌿

A male and female pair of one of my favorite spider genuses, acanthepeira (star-bellied orb weavers). Found these a stone's throw from each other, look like acanthepeira venusta. 1st pic male, 2nd female. They got the fisheye treatment because they're kinda perfect subjects. 🤎🕷️🌿

I hate headlines like this because it gives the impression of finding some sinister biblically accurate bodybuilder waiting to jump you in the cold dark oceans but actually it's just a relative of the sea cucumber
