BREAKING: Ontario has lost the 2025 provincial election

Minor planet 299631 has been named for Kaylie Green, who was a PhD student in our department when she passed away almost 2 years ago. A fitting memorial for someone who practiced and shared astronomy with such passion. www.wgsbn-iau.org/files/Bullet...

Hey, women in science roll call! We’re not invisible and we can’t be erased. RT if you’re a woman in science!

It was great!🔭

Fun night at @westernucronyn.bsky.social despite the snow storm! It was great to see a bunch of people come out to celebrate women and girls in astronomy!! 🔭

It's going to be a great event!! 🔭

Exciting news! We’re thrilled to announce that tapir Yuna gave birth to a rare and endangered Malayan tapir calf Sunday night. The newborn, covered in distinctive white spots and stripes resembling a fuzzy walking watermelon, is only the second tapir born in our 120-year history.

Wow I just attended a talk about entrepreneurship where the speaker's first anecdote was how in his undergrad he repeatedly harassed a woman over email until he got funding for a conference, with the moral of the story being "I got free money, and all it cost was 20 emails" ...

Are you a Canadian/working in Canada astronomer, astrophysicist, something vaguely related? Want to join the starter pack? let me know! go.bsky.app/KTRebGB

Academic slang: I'm running a little behind = this was due in 2021 This shouldn't take too long = I'll finish in 2027

Turns out the worst time to learn you won a scholarship is right before a doctor's appointment. Yay for the award, but man my heart rate was entirely too fast

My students (in the course I TA) presented posters today on the research project they've been working on all term to observe star clusters! They all did so well I am so proud!!! 🔭

Obsessed!!! I want this SO bad, if only I wasn't a broke grad student... Time to subtly hint to my family for Christmas

Hmmm... Close Duolingo, but not quite right...

Made a starter pack of Canadian astro-types. Please share, and let me know if you want in (or out!) go.bsky.app/KTRebGB

A brown dwarf astronomy starter pack. Let me know if you want to be added. It was @markmarley.bsky.social ‘s idea. 🔭 go.bsky.app/UVjXNLA

Holy cow! My followers have more than doubled in the past few hours. Welcome friends! I'm Sami, a PhD student studying the rotation of very small stars (ultracool dwarfs), and am exoplanet detection-adjacent! I also do outreach at my local observatory, and have a great dane named Merlin!

I'm in the same starter pack as THE @frogs4girls.bsky.social! Lol but seriously, a great starter pack full of awesome astro grads!!

Okay I'll try this: first ~50 people with something indicating they're an astronomy/astrophysics grad student in their bio who like/repost/interact with this skeet will get put in a starter pack

Here's a Merlin for the feed

Something is missing in this picture.

My only image of the now (very faint) comet C/2023 A3, taken to prove to myself that it was still high enough in the sky to see with our telescopes! 🔭

Here are my obligatory photos of the aurora last night, taken in Southwestern Ontario! Just check out their reflection on the water! 🔭

Oops! All-nighter At least this thesis will be done by Friday (whether I'm ready or not)

My dog was diagnosed with bone cancer. I tried to write about it to process the stress and big feelings. Cute photos at the end. megantannock.wixsite.com/home/post/di...
