Reminder what tornado death rates looked like before improving forecasting, building codes, education, etc. Research matters. Back to 1875 we go! Figure credit: @hebrooks87.bsky.social

Zack is a top-tier climate scientist and data visualization wizard. This did not need to happen.

My heart breaks for those NWS/NOAA employees who are being let go today. National Weather Service is already incredibly understaffed and every meteorologist is critical and essential. This will undoubtedly cost lives as severe weather and hurricane season ramps up.

We’ve officially made it through the worst stretch of winter (the 10 weeks between seasons of Survivor).

Hearing a rumble of thunder tonight/early tomorrow would eliminate my seasonal depression.

Let’s do that hockey

90+ points in back to back games. It’s wildly fun to see a Badger offense like this 🔥

Three weeks from today the sun will set at 6:53pm, Milwaukee. We’ve almost made it.

#SNL50 has been fantastic so far.

Struck gold at Goodwill.

Thoroughly enjoying this snow ❄️

Snow day ❄️

Everyone please report this imposter account.

Actual air temps are brutal across Wisconsin right now, especially up north.

It's so cold outside that some of the lights on the Hoan aren't working.

We just have to get through the next two days. We just have to get through the next two days. We just have to get through the next two days. We just have to get through the next two days. We just have to get through the next two days.

It's insane that places like New Orleans, Houston, and Austin, TX will see more snow than southern Wisconsin this week.

Lake Michigan 🧊

The cold is going to get worse before it gets better. Actual air temps drop to either side of -10° area-wide Tuesday morning with wind chills between -35° and -30°. With wind chills this cold, I'd imagine many schools will close.

Extreme Cold Warnings encompass the northern half of the state while Cold Weather Advisories cover the southern half. Wind chills as cold as -40° are possible up north Monday morning.

Temps drop into the single digits below zero tonight, and the wind will stay around 10-15 mph. This will make it feel like -30° to -25° across most of SE WI Monday morning.

Albedo effect is in full force across the Badger state today. Temps are a good 10° colder where there is snow on the ground vs where there is bare ground. You can see where there is and isn't snow on the ground from this clear satellite view.

Brb hopping on a flight to Miami.

Breaking news - it's cold.

Here's what it'll feel like tomorrow morning. It'll feel 5-10° worse both Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Thinking about how all of the unopened Miller Lite cans at Ueck's statue are going to explode in this cold and how Ueck would probably find it funny. One last beer shower.

Ready or not, here comes the bitter cold air. Frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes on exposed skin in this weather, so limit your time outdoors if you can.

Coldest air of the season is expected the next three days, but tolerable temps return for the second half of next week.

Bundle up if you're heading to the Waukesha JanBoree! Temps fall into the teens after sunset with wind chills in the single digits.

An initial Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for all of SE WI (note the different start times) through 9pm Monday. Wind chills will be in the -30° to -15° range Sunday through Wednesday morning.

Tons of sun means a clear satellite view of where there is and isn't snow on the ground across Wisconsin right now. The incoming cold snap would be MUCH worse if we actually had snow on the ground.

We came close to tying a record high today but came up a few degrees short. Although we have very cold air moving in Sunday - Tuesday, we won't be close to breaking any cold records at all.

Hey Mother Nature, this is just cruel.

Today's officially our first 50° day of the year! This is the first time Milwaukee has reached the 50s in January since 2020. Soak in the warmth today because it's going to feel 60° to 80° colder the next several days.

Shorts weather

Cheers, Ueck. Rest easy.

RIP Bob Uecker. Never forget the time he and Bob Gibson got in trouble for holding hands during the team photo.

Baseball will never be the same without Bob Uecker. RIP to the best to ever do it.

A heat wave is expected tomorrow and Friday with temps rising above freezing. Soak it all in before the coldest air of the season arrives early next week.

A clipper system will bring a batch of patchy snow to SE WI this evening into early Thursday morning. A dusting to an inch of accumulation is expected, but it'll be a dry snow that'll blow around easily.

The arctic air remains locked in over the Great Lakes, but see that warmth in the Dakotas? That arrives tomorrow!

Anchorage, Alaska warmed to 47° today, which was warmer than 75% of the Lower 48.
