they're trying to normalize it. Don't let them.

Any Maine folks interested in organizing?

Good visualization from @esa.int of the shrinking uncertainties in the impact probability of asteroid 2024 YR4, as more observations of the orbit continue.

Saw the Roman Space Telescope at Goddard this morning and 😍😍 Truly can’t wait for launch in 2026 and the amount of science we’ll get out of it. We’re expecting over 1TB of data per DAY from Roman!

FEBRUARY 27: "Exploring the Solar System with the James Webb Space Telescope" with Dr. Heidi Hammel. 🔭 🧪

me for most of my life: my dream job is at NASA! the U.S. government the year that i’m on the job market: what do we even need NASA for??

The flying public needs answers. How many FAA personnel were just fired? What positions? And why?

If you don't know the jargon, "physics package" generally refers to a nuclear warhead (or the components thereof)

Women in STEM are having their work and bios removed from government websites. One woman started womeninstemus.blogspot.com?m=1 to document these “lost works” for future generations. They are taking submissions! Please share #womeninstem

Exoplaneteers! Please join us ***right now*** for our first two talks of the year - Nick Tusay and Grant Weldon! 🪐🔭 exoplanets.nasa.gov/exep/events/...

Get in dorks, we're going protesting! STAND UP FOR SCIENCE WITH US ON MARCH 7TH, 2025 WASHINGTON DC AND EVERY STATE CAPITOL Because science is for everyone! Find us at www.standupforscience2025.org #standupforscience2025 #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

Walking in to NASA’s JPL today as a woman in science leadership felt almost like a protest. They can take us off the webpages and the walls, but we will still be here, absolutely crushing it, and supporting our community while we do it. Happy International Day of Women in Science, everyone.

Spot the difference.

Exoplanet folks! 🪐🔭 I’ll be visiting STScI and Goddard to present some of my PhD work later this month at the exoplanet seminars. If you’re interested in reflected light direct imaging of exoplanets or studying solar system planets in an exoplanet context, reach out and let’s chat while i’m in town!

Registration is now open for the (free, hybrid) 2025 Sagan Summer Workshop! This (25th!) workshop will be focused on Exoplanet Demographics and our overall picture of exoplanet populations through various detection techniques. 🪐🔭🧪 nexsci.caltech.edu/workshop/2025/

Deutsche physik, 2025 edition. Everyone going along with this should take a long hard look at themselves

The chance of asteroid 2024 YR4 hitting out planet in 2032 is now 1.5%, or 1 in 67. The OVERWHELMING likelihood is that the asteroid will miss Earth. But for the first time ever, we might have to seriously consider a deflection mission soon. Let me explain. 🧵 (1/x)

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

This is very good. I used to think that those who insist science is apolitical and must stay out of politics altogether were misguided. I hope it's now clear that such attitudes were catastrophically foolish - we are in an age (and have been for some time) where adherence to facts is political.

❗❗NASA is pausing program analysis groups activities. These are the groups that provide community input to the Astrophysics and Planetary Divisions to help shape the science that NASA supports. Source: I'm on the ExoPAG executive committee (repost with more emails blocked)

Post the amazing science things you have done with federal funding.

FYSA: Call *your* congressperson's. Not someone else's. If you are not their constituent they do not care and you're only tying up the line for the people they do represent.

It is very easy to call your representatives’ offices. They have to log your calls and the call numbers are meaningful. You don’t even have to try to convince anyone; just call and tell them your concerns. They are there to represent you. Let them know what that means. www.usa.gov/elected-offi...

Forgot I wasn’t in California for a minute there, that was crazy

Live look inside my head.

In addition to the astrostatistics scholarship, the general International Scholarships are now advertised at @Macquarie_Uni - come work with us on exoplanets & stars; astronomical instrumentation; and stats in physics and astronomy! Applications close 2 March.

Just had a sample of the Eaton Fire ash that is in my driveway run on the department XRF. Is there titanium (new house paint)? Yup. Lead (old house paint)? You betcha. Heavy metals? Check. Treat that ash like it's toxic folks (because it is)

“what kind of conference is this?” “an astronomy conference!” “oh an astrology conference?” 😫 #AAS245 🔭

Folks, a huge number of people at JPL have been affected by the LA wildfires, with many losing their homes. If you can, consider contributing to a fund that's been set up to help them: (Link looks sketch but site is legit) caltech.imodules.com/controls/ema...

Hey folks - like many people, our friends have lost their house and everything in it. If you are able to help support them through a long, slow recovery, please do. #LAFires gofund.me/a24b7e39
