If you’ve not seen “The Conversation,” it’s masterwork by Gene Hackman. “Royal Tenenbaums” (he allowed Wes Anderson’s whimsy to swirl around him), “Young Frankenstein” (he asked to be in it), “French Connection” (you can taste it), his Lex Luther is the best superhero movie villain ever.

Lucy Olsen sure does have "Happy learned how to putt" energy from 3 these days, don't she?

"You got any gum?"

It’s obvious Caitlin Clark is Nirvana & Green Day in the early 90s and the WNBA’s Old Guard is the physical manifestation of “punk rock guilt.” CC: “Is it something I did?” O.G.: “Yeah, you’re so good, everyone like you.” CC: “Yeah, sorry about that” (narrator: she’s not). (1/2)

I've been making jokes for 30+ years about A.C. Slater from "Saved by the Bell" being a 5-sport star because he somehow (impossibly) wrestled AND played basketball. With @kjpilcher.bsky.social telling this here story ... welp, I've been proven wrong. Good stuff. www.thegazette.com/wrestling/do...

Eagles or Redacteds vs. Chiefs? I think the Led Zeppelin IMAX movie opens that weekend. Road trip!

I hate football.

Kyle MacLachlan’s beautiful tribute to David Lynch

Greatest Iowa movie ever made. David Lynch FTW.

On his podcast, @joekwa.bsky.social makes an appeal to the Rock Hall Nominating Committee to finally put The B-52’s on the ballot. (Last year, Joe successfully lobbied for Kool & the Gang) podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/i...

In honor of his last day at The Gazette, please enjoy this photograph of @nathantford.bsky.social watching the 2016 Chicago Cubs portray male strippers in a sketch on the first episode of “Saturday Night Live” after they won the World Series.

If you see this, post a knight.

Yes, really. Just like they drew it up. Due to Black Friday's late kickoff, visit the Green Gazette at thegazette.com and click “Digital Edition” at the top of the homepage.

11/29/99 - Day 1 at The Gazette. Almost 26. 11/29/24 - Today, 25 years at The Gazette. Almost 51. That's half my life. There are days at ANY job that are tedious and mind-numbing. But when you create or collaborate on stuff people really like, that's why you do it. That's the best. Thank you.

Not quite. Mock, block and roll is my credo. I think it legit to fire one insulting salvo, marking the shitheel for others to block as well, and then disengage entirely.

What's up, Bluesky? How you livin'? These Iowa Hawkeyes ... they are "Born to Run." Pick up a Sunday Gazette or check the Green Gazette at thegazette.com and click “Digital Edition” at the top of the homepage.

Name a show you're positive no one remembers but you.

Hlas column: The Iowa men's basketball team's game in the Quad Cities Friday night showed fans still have a hunger to see it, especially when the team comes to them instead of vice versa. www.thegazette.com/iowa-basketb...
