My university banned our martial arts club from using any metal weapons because they “look dangerous”. ETSU is where I learned to use a Japanese sword. For this to be blindly banned without a second thought, or even a conversation, really speaks of the character of the place where I work.

Teaching is an awful profession most of the time for me. But I had a student cry and hug me today, on her last day of class with me. She said I was “the best” and she thanked me for using her preferred name as soon as I learned it. Sometimes, it ain’t too heck.
