Sad milestone: As of today more than half of scheduled study sections this year did not meet as scheduled. Sections not meeting as scheduled today (2/26): BCO, CIHB, HHD, LHB, MABS, PMDA, TAG, CDIN, MPPA, ZRG IIDB-F. As of now, the NIH has no new postings to the Federal Register since 01/21/25.

I haven't been posting often on Bluesky. And the skies are not so blue these days in the US science world. One thing we can certainly do is to show that our work is important and contributes to progress in science. Two studies that my lab contributed to were posted on bioRxiv over the last 2 weeks.

This is the most relevant article to NIH and research cuts I’ve seen. Imagine if this was today , how many people would be saying “Why are we studying Gila Monsters and their impact on diabetes ? That’s wasted money !” globalnews.ca/news/9793403...

There it is! The end of academic science in the US. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

⚠️ Effective Monday 2/10/25, NIH indirect rate capped at 15%. Applies to existing & future grants. —> Deep budget cuts & program closures coming to a university near you. Is this the break the glass moment for university administrators who have been silent so far about the attack on science?

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

🙏 HUP BlueSky! 💪 😊

Christmas is a good time to throw Wikipedia a few bucks to thank them for the many times you relied on the site that year. Members of the billionaire class want to destroy it for some reason. (@archive.org is also under constant threat nowadays and in need of support)

As the left flees and X loses broader relevance, it becomes a more overtly right-wing site, @alibreland.bsky.social writes. But the right needs liberals on X in order to push conservative perspectives into the mainstream.

Hi science friends. Let’s try this again!
