This is how I would respond to the email Musk has had sent to government employees (not legal advice). 1. Refused to violate the law. 2. Refused to violate the Constitution. 3. Refused to bow or scrape. 4. Refused to bend a knee. 5. Deleted this stupid email.

Members of the military are supposed to be loyal to the Constitution, not the president. Changing that seems to have been the point of the Friday Night Massacre. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

Same

Trump & Musk are teeing up their biggest target yet: Social Security. They're using "fraud" as a political tool to justify the attack. Social Security has long been the rock of the welfare state. It comprises 40% of income for older adults. It's so popular, the GOP loves it just as much as Dems 1/

Last night's Pentagon massacre is much more than realized. Not just firing the black CJCS and first woman CNO but all the senior JAG officers and hiring a man who just joined 3 different crypto firms tied to Kushner and Thiel as Chairman. I did a deep dive into it open.substack.com/pub/fpwellma...

Universities really need to pay attention to this. It's not just about the indirects and frozen funds. If these layoffs continue, which by all signs are continuing and going well beyond probationary employees, ***these agencies will not be functional, including NIH, CDC, and NSF***

I don't agree with all of her policies but you don't mess with Mainers. They are, overall, tough as nails, good hearted, and extremely big fans of democracy. You haven't lived until you've caucused in a small Maine town or collected signatures for a People's Referendum.

Read the real stories about what USAID cuts mean, not the Musk propaganda www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/o...

Meth, ketamine—drugs and Naziism go together like big rallies and Hitler salutes.

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

Sure Trump fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the CNO....but they fired the top JAG's in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Why would you fire the top lawyers in the armed services at night on a Friday? That's the part you should be freaking out about.

JUST IN: HNL Lab Medicine will begin subtyping all positive influenza A samples from hospitalized patients to detect H5N1 bird flu.

Seen at CPAC

We are now finding bird flu in deer mice and house mice in Washington State. H5N1 is advancing along the evolutionary ladder—affecting birds, mammals, and humans. This is not speculation; it’s a timeline.

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center say results of a Phase I trial of an mRNA vaccine aimed at preventing pancreatic cancer show promise. The vaccine PREVENTED the cancer from coming back in patients who had already received treatment for MORE THAN three years. 🧪🧵⬇️

This can't possibly be legal, right? It was quite specifically removed from Presidental control by statute in 1970, even more independent than than the Fed or the NTSB

Quite literally, word for word, a total failure of Article I of the Constitution

Go, Janet!

WNC- look out.

JFC. This sickens me.

I was in line at the grocery store last night, and a man who looked to be in his 80's was arguing with another patron, semi-yelled, "I'll tell you when things change; when instead of the citizens of this country going to bed scared...1/3

It is not like a grant recipient is making bank. Likely not feasible to take the cut.

I'm less struck by the caught off guard vibe than the WTF are you talking about jackass, the "cuts" are literally illegal. You're in Congress?

What still hasn't yet gotten sufficient attention is that the federal workforce - not just VA - is disproportionately made up of veterans. That are many reasons. One is that there are many logical paths from uniformed services into fed workforce. There are also employment preferences for ...

He would not have a clue about any of this.

BREAKING — I've confirmed the DOGE staffers at SSA. They are Marko Elez (who was previously fired for racist posts and then reinstated), Ethan Shaotran, Nikhil Rajpal, and Gautier Cole-Killian. This is per Social Security Works, a non-profit working to protect/expand Social Security.

This made so much more sense when someone reminded me her husband is in parking garages and she got hired to represent Trump when she was a parking garage lawyer.

DOGE puts a $1 limit on government credit cards. Every single federal employee should order one $.96 Pentel ballpoint pen www.wired.com/story/doge-g...

Reminder: Behind the numbers are regular people, with lives - many veterans.

This is one of many ways that Musk is making policy changes that align with his business interests

Nothing abt what DOGE claims it's doing, or even what most suspect they're doing, requires anything like the current access they now have to critical data and nat sec computer systems across the federal govenrment. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/doge-...

“No more kings” From Schoolhouse Rock

This 💯. Total, comprehensive failure of <every> <single> set of societal institutions & actors right now. I'm a political scientist. I get that collective action problems are hard. But a lot of this is just simple cowardice right now. Get in front of microphones, in groups, & start speaking out.

Susan Collins chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee and has the power to push back against the Trump-Musk misuse of federal funds. If you live in Maine and are ... concerned? troubled? worried? ... let her know and let her know often.

I posted this in July 2024 and here we are

As the billionaires and their puppets scream “cut cut cut” — behind the numbers are Americans with lives and families.

“The number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic was so large that it ended up impacting the nation’s Social Security fund — which had a net increase of $205 billion.”

NEW: Per a source at HUD, there are plans out there to cut staff at the agency by almost 50 percent, far beyond the “probationary” bullshit. This hasn’t started yet though, to be clear. I have seen numbers for sub-offices that exceed 70 and 80 percent cuts in some cases. “Really devastating.”

Conversely, a number of Americans have received capital punishment or maximum security life sentences for doing less damage to the government than Musk
