Middle class liberal. Stopped watching BBC news years ago.

Seems right. My very reformy elderly parents vote Lib Dem in GE because their local MP is very locally focussed- Tim Farron

Saw it in Paris. Just glorious.

Harpie? Seriously? No wonder women don't want to go into politics...

Hate to be that pedant - it is the oldest higher education institution, but Penn in Philadelphia is the oldest University (Ben Franklin and all that ...). Expect Penn will be in the firing line too .... :(
comment in response to post
I went to Penn. Guess they are also in the firing line unless they have capitulated (Trump jr is Penn - Wharton) This would have been me ..... jeez.

Bit harsh on Lady P there ..... she looks badly AI generated.

Have used these countless times for ages from 11 up to people in their 90s. So good. Thank you.

He does. They have health issues and have only ever been treated with kindness and efficiency by an army of health professionals from overseas. And lived in Spain most winters until 2020 which they can no longer do. They would still vote to leave if asked again - because of a feeling! Don't ask em!

Sadly my otherwise lovely elderly parents hang on his every word.....very depressing

Haven't looked at the report yet, but is there a breakdown of take up for boys/girls based on module choice - I think I have been told that the Medicine module was designed to appeal to boys? Not sure whether that is true or if it works - have only taught girls, it's a bit hit and miss with them....

Go no. Would be another shit show of Farage lies and hate. Not again. Starmer just needs to grow a pair....

Got the audio book as a result of reading the article - and watched the first episode of the drama!

That's education for sure. Top drawer. But informed? Not convinced it's the best word....as someone who struggled at maths but has education up to MA level it doesn't seem to me that getting a maths GCSE would be helpful in this context...
comment in response to post
How does GCSE maths inform exactly?

Freecycle. Or do you know any students? You might have to get someone to take it to them though ...

But kicked back on the Stalin stuff very quickly after 1945 - see the great Ernest Bevin on that.

And Europe. Ffs. Brexit is the biggest problem and Farage needs to be called out on it. Be bold. Not reform lite.
comment in response to post
True but the Labour mood music is terrible - if I had a council vote this time I would have kicked them and voted LD or Green ... way too reform lite on immigration and crime and not loud enough anti Trump and pro Europe, kicking the disabled - things need to improve. Too timid.
comment in response to post
So I know people who vote reform in locals because they are a little bit old, little bit racist, voted brexit and don't believe in climate change but will vote LD in general election because they have an excellent LD MP .... it's not logical.

Also used to great affect in A Man Called Otto (Tom Hanks version) . Beautiful.

Horrific but not new. Spent my entire salary on nursery fees when the kids were tiny - just had to make it through to school age! Many people did.

As a Penn alumni this will never not hurt

I teach junior history. We cover Empire, partition, Windrush. I use Empireland as a central source....not fair to say these things aren't covered and in a measured way. We don't use Atlases where large swathes of territories are red...

How to police that though?

Our school takes the phones away at the beginning of the day at registration - they go in a box. They are then picked up at the end of the day. No need for lockers. Argument here seems to be should they have them at all, which is a bit different.
comment in response to post
Schools are trying to do that all day every day - in a massively quick moving technical environment. Who would do that training??? And teachers are often parents too. The solution is not entirely in the hands of schools.

We did this in the UK - vote for whoever has the best chance of getting the CPC candidate out. It worked for us (although current govt not exactly crushing it right now - but Tories are very out).

Caversham. But I agree. Thank you.

No one is accusing her personally but she was in charge of a deeply flawed process which she has since defended. Not worthy of a peerage. I'm sure she's been renumerated well for her service. Leave it at that.
comment in response to post
Sorry. You really need to look at the facts of the inspection and consequent downgrading. Much more complicated and Ofsted comes out of it very badly. It's an excellent school in my local area. Feelings here are very raw.

Who is the DEI employee on the right there? Surprised she managed to get in on the photo op. Or that she still has a job.

I'm not an American but even I am horrified by WaPo's abysmal journalism. Where is Ukraine in this mythical ceasefire?
