Really great day so far at #MarineForum2025! Bonus points for the life sized seal model 🦭 @strandings.bsky.social @whalesorg.bsky.social

"I’m campaigning for legal protection for these fish, because no one has done a proper assessment of the impact of removing cleaner fish from Scottish reefs..." Melanie, a member of Friends of Loch Hourn, spoke to the Guardian on her fascination with wrasse 🐟 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Coastal Communities Network are now on bluesky! Give them a follow to hear about community-led marine and coastal protection and regeneration efforts all across the Scottish coast 🐟 🌊

The @carbonbrief.org daily update this morning is really something

What a set of headlines on the front page of The Guardian right now. #climatechaos

Wrasse are a keystone species in inshore waters, ensuring the health of marine ecosystems 🐟 Good to see that the Scottish Gov now need to assess the impact of wrasse fishing on wider marine ecosystems before this year's fishing season in May. environmentalstandards.scot/our-work/our...

“This incident underscores the urgent need for a complete reassessment of how we monitor and regulate the salmon farming industry. The health of our oceans and the integrity of our endangered wild salmon populations are at stake.” www.thetimes.com/article/d13d...

"A request made through ChatGPT, an AI-based virtual assistant, consumes 10 times the electricity of a Google Search" This isn't a game. This is accelerated destruction via huge usage of power, water, resources etc. Stop using it - especially for messing about!! www.unep.org/news-and-sto...

Some good news from Norway - a historic win for ocean protection 🌊 amp.theguardian.com/environment/...

Big flashbacks to February 2020

As you head out to vote today in #GE24, bear in mind that the global #climate system is breaking down, right before our eyes. Please, please only vote for candidates who are truly committed to doing what they can to tackle this unfolding tragedy. www.theguardian.com/world/2024/n...

Some light reading on a frosty morning train ❄️

Who is committed to climate red lines? We analysed the #GE24 party election manifestos and scored them each on their commitments to a ban on LNG, a moratorium on data centres and eliminating energy poverty. Consider who is committed to clear climate action when you vote on Friday! 🗣️🗯️🗳️

Very common question. Think of it this way: the Irish electoral system not only allows you to support the candidate(s) you like, but also to punish the ones you hate. If you are genuinely passive about a batch of candidates, it’s ok to leave their boxes blank - but if you can rank them, you should!

"We are really at the edge of this precipice. In fact, I think we've fallen over it to be honest. So anything that happens needs to be radical and revolutionary". A really interesting roadmap from Oceana! 🐟

Hello to everyone joining! I'm maintaining a list of folks working on climate change (broadly interpreted) in Ireland - you can Pin this to your Home to create an automatically-updating feed. bsky.app/profile/did:...

There is hope.

✊ Join us tomorrow! 🌍 The people who have contributed the least to #ClimateChange and #BiodiversityBreakdown, will bear the brunt of the negative effects. 🕊️ Peace and global justice are essential for achieving climate justice and safeguarding human rights.
